MONTHLY MEETING

EZRA S. GRIFFIN CAMP #8

April 9, 1992

The meeting was called to order by Camp Commander Robert Bergen followed by the recital of the Pledge of Allegiance.

Other members in attendance were:

Robert Shaffer Robert Yeager Ronald Albert Joseph Long
Howard Saltz Russell Jones Charles Mercer Conrad Kwolek

OLD BUSINESS:

Bob Shaffer reported that the letter was sent out to the Kingston Armory on the 16th of March.  No reply as of this date.

According to Joe Long there may only be a few large pictures there after talking to a Major at the Armory.

Bob Yeager reported that he has a commitment of a pick-up truck to deliver the chairs to the Dunmore Cemetery on Memorial Day.

We have also secured Dr. Albert Solomon as the Speaker for the Memorial Day Services.  Bob Bergen suggested that we donate a one year membership to Dr. Solomon for his talk at our meeting plus his acceptance to speak on Memorial Day.  This is also to be brought up at our next Association Meeting.

Bob Shaffer was asked if one of his daughters could lead in the Pledge of Allegiance.  Bob Bergen will be contacted.  Bob Bergen will also contact the individual for the playing of Taps.

The Headstone Project is still up in the air.  The following individuals volunteered to help with the project:

Joe Long Bob Bergen Russ Jones Bob Shaffer
Bob Yeager Chuck Mercer Conrad Kwolek

The feasibility of a Museum Inventory was discussed.  It was suggested that a physical and video inventory be made.  The physical inventory would go as follows:

          1. Books

          2. Weapons

          3. Artifacts

          4. Pictures

The due date of the inventory was set for the month of August due to the upcoming encampment and other meetings.

NEW BUSINESS:

It was suggested that Bob Shaffer take notes at the Association Meetings and bring important items to the attention of the Camp at the monthly meeting.

It was noted that PR for Memorial Day, the State Encampment and any other upcoming events dealing with the Camp or Association be placed in the local newspapers 2 weeks before that date.

Joe Long brought a cemetery marker to the meeting sent to him from Tennessee purchased at a flea market there.  This marker is believed to have been produced in the 1890's.  It was suggested that the marker and the newspaper article be placed in the Museum and noted that it was contributed by this person.

Joe Long reported that he sent letters to James Connors, Mayor of Scranton, and David Wenzel for appearances at the Encampment.  No replies have been received as of this date.

Bob Yeager received the copies of Advance the Colors which will be on display at the Museum.

Howard Saltz volunteered to have a stamp made to mark Museum items.

Conrad Kwolek sent a letter to the 188th Pa. for participation on Memorial Day.  He has not received a reply.  He also reported that his Company will perform a Reverse Arms formation which is also a Funeral Ceremony.

The next Camp meeting will be held on May 12, 1992.

With no further business, questions or comments, a motion to adjourn was made by Joe Long and seconded by Conrad Kwolek.

Respectfully Submitted,

Robert C. Shaffer
