MONTHLY MEETING
EZRA S. GRIFFIN CAMP #8
May 14, 1992
The meeting was called to order by Camp Commander Robert Bergen followed by the
recital of the Pledge of Allegiance with the Invocation given by Chaplain
William Lindberg.
Other members in attendance were:
Bob Shaffer | Robert Yeager | Ron Albert | Russell Jones |
Joe Long | Conrad Kwolek | Charles Mercer | Robert Price |
OLD BUSINESS:
Bob Shaffer reported that there still has been no reply from the Kingston
Armory.
Conrad Kwolek reported that the 188th would not be present at Dunmore for the
Memorial Day Services.
Letters have been sent to various newspapers and TV stations will be
notified of upcoming events.
Bob Shaffer stated that his daughter Danielle would lead the Pledge of
Allegiance and Bob Bergen contacted Eric McGinnis for the playing of Taps at the
Memorial Day Services.
A motion to donate a one year associate membership to Dr. Albert Solomon was
made by Bob Shaffer and seconded by Bob Yeager.
The motion was unanimous with the presentation to be made at Dunmore.
Joe Long reported that there were still 16 members with unpaid dues.
But as of the meeting 4 had been received, 10 were still unpaid and 2
had dropped out of the Camp.
These members were Robert Martin and Peter Tomasak.
Another first.
This years Invocation on Memorial Day will be delivered by Camp
Chaplain Bill Lindberg.
NEW BUSINESS:
Joe Long reported that a contingent from Scranton would be going to Carlisle
on Sunday, May 17th.
There would be approximately 15 people going, most of them belonging
to the Women's Auxiliary.
The official start of Auxiliary 10 is planned for the Encampment in June.
Since there is no meeting of the Memorial Association in August it was
suggested that the Camp follow the same procedure.
There will be further discussions about the Headstone Project at the July
meeting. It
was also suggested that members go to the meeting at Forest Hills Cemetery and
give their ideas on the project with emphasis on the idea of a non‑monetary
basis. The
tentative schedule for this project would be (1) Forest Hills (2) Dunmore and
(3) Cathedral.
Joe Long suggested that all Camp members planning to attend the Banquet at
the June Encampment be there by 6:45.
Conrad Kwolek made a proposal that Camp #8 sponsor the 143rd contingent in
name only since they appear at our Memorial Day Ceremonies and will be there at
our Encampment in June.
Further discussions will follow.
The next Camp meeting will be held on Thursday, June 11, 1992.
With no further business, questions or comments, a motion to adjourn was made
by Joe Long and seconded by Conrad Kwolek.
Respectfully Submitted,
Robert C. Shaffer
Asst. Secretary
