MONTHLY MEETING
EZRA S. GRIFFIN CAMP #8
The meeting was called to order by Camp Commander Bob Bergen followed by the
recital of the Pledge of Allegiance.
Other members in attendance were:
Bob Shaffer | Russ P. Jones | Ron Albert | Chuck Jones | Bob Price |
Bill Burns | Joseph Long Jr. | Tom Burns | Russ W. Jones | Bob Yeager |
The minutes of the last
three meetings were read and approved with no changes.
This evening was the
first visit to the Camp by Tom Burns, who was visiting from New York.
He was very impressed with our Museum.
OLD BUSINESS:
Joe Long and Bob Shaffer
reported that the arrangements for our upcoming dinner meeting with the Camp
from Bangor are going very well.
There will be at least 12 people coming up to Scranton.
Joe also reminded the members to let him know ahead of time whether
they would be coming to the dinner.
The Ladies Auxiliary is
planning an Open House in the March, April or May 1993 time frame.
It was decided at the
Memorial Association meeting that the pistols should be sold to a Camp member,
if possible.
If this could not be arranged, the Camp will hold on to them until another
decision could be made.
Joe Long reported that the
four members were dropped as of October 1992.
NEW BUSINESS:
A discussion was held
concerning the Camp offering a scholarship to a deserving local college student
currently having a hard time in school.
It was suggested that an essay about some facet of the Civil War be
the topic. It
would be the decision of the Camp as to what the essay would be about and the
amount of the donation.
Chuck Jones suggested that we come up with a form of some type
describing what our needs would be.
Bob Yeager was checking with the Dexter Hanley College because that is
where a lot of local students are going.
Further discussions will be held at upcoming meetings on December 10th
and January 14th.
Joe Long also requested that each member should try their best to acquire new
members for the Camp.
He also suggested that if anyone has any ideas about guest speakers or
any other means of publicizing our Camp, please bring it to the attention on any
of the Officers.
At this time, the election
of Officers for 1993 took place.
Nominations were as follows:
The nominations were closed except for the position of Patriotic Instructor
which was left vacant.
With no further business,
questions or comments, a motion to adjourn was made by Bob Shaffer and seconded
by Bill Burns.
Respectfully Submitted,
Robert C. Shaffer
Asst. Secretary
