MONTHLY MEETING

 EZRA S. GRIFFIN CAMP #8

June 15, 1995

 

The meeting was called to order by Commander Russell P. Jones, followed by the Pledge of Allegiance.

 

Other members in attendance were:

The minutes from the May  meeting were read.  A motion to accept the minutes was made by Russ W. Jones and seconded by Rich Jones.  All were in favor.

 

FINANCIAL REPORT:

Joe Long read the financial report.  Joe also mentioned that the drawing held in May was won by Rich Nagle.    There are still 7 members who have not paid their dues.  The total in the Help Members Fund is $67.00.  A motion to accept the financial report was made by Bob Shaffer and seconded by Russ W. Jones.  All were in favor.  The report was accepted and referred to the audit committee.

 

OLD BUSINESS:

Memorial Day - The weather held and we had a very good turn-out.  Attendance is on the rise.

 

It was noted that the schedule was kept to lay flags at Dunmore and Mt. Carmel Cemeteries.

 

Joe reported that the rededication at Wilkes-Barre went well.  He also reported that the GAR and Camp Flags were shown on TV.

 

The dinner for the Tripp House is scheduled for September 30th, 1995 at 6:00 p.m.  The cost will be $15.00 per person and the meal will be served at 7:00 p.m.

 

Joe has a list of Tombstones up to 1899.  He also reported that a flat bronze plaque is also  available.  The cemetery liked the idea.  Joe will make more inquiries.  A question was raised as to whether or not we would need permission from the families to replace the stones.

 

NEW BUSINESS:

Application for Membership from Ronald K. Robbins submitted by Dennis Rightmire, Robert Long submitted by Joe Long and John H. Ronk submitted by Bob Baker.  Referred to Membership Committee of Bob Yeager, Bob Price and Rich Jones.

 

Secretary Shaffer read Department Order #4

 

Cannon Issue - Preliminary hearing has found in our favor.  Pritchard does not know the whereabouts of the cannon.  All-in-all hearing went well.  Russ will bring letter to next meeting.

 

July 4th at Lake Lincoln - Bob Price will represent the Camp and Joe Long will carry the GAR Flag, Russ P. Jones will carry the Camp Flag and Russ W. Jones will carry the Spanish American War Flag.  Members to be there by 10:15 and Services to begin at 11:00 a.m.

 

Camp Delegates to Encampment - Commander Jones made a motion that any member attending the Department Encampment be a delegate.  Bob Yeager seconded.  All in favor.

 

Joe Long suggested we buy new membership cards and certificates.  A motion to buy was made by Bob Shaffer and seconded by Bob Price.  All in favor.

 

Joe Long received a check for $75.00 from the Count Commissioners for placing flags on the veterans graves.

 

The Ladies Auxiliary will be hosting an Open House on September 2nd in conjunction with La Fiesta Italiana.  All members are urged to attend the Open House.

 

There will be no meetings held in the months of July or August.  If any emergency arises, an emergency meeting will be called.

 

The 50/50 drawing was won by Bob Shaffer.

 

With no further questions, business or discussions, a motion to adjourn was made by Joe Long and seconded by Bob Shaffer.
