MONTHLY MEETING

EZRA S. GRIFFIN CAMP #8

July 18, 1996

 

The meeting was called to order by Commander Russell P. Jones, followed by the Pledge of Allegiance.

The minutes from the November meeting were approved as read.  A motion to accept the minutes was made by Bill Lindberg and seconded by Bob Yeager.  All were in favor. 

 

FINANCIAL REPORT:

Joe Long read the financial report with the following information:                    

     The Help Fund is now at $65.40 (which includes gift from Bob Price)

     Ticket winner for November was Frank Cashmere

 

A motion to accept the financial report was made by Bob Shaffer and seconded by Bill Lindberg.  All were in favor and the report and the report was referred to the audit committee. 

 

OLD BUSINESS:

A Thank You card was received from Bob Price and passed around the meeting.

 

Joe Long reported that the Charter was completed and would be returned.

 

Joe Long reported it would coast $50 - $60 dollars to have the Camp Logo put on the checks in the checking account at Mellon Bank.  It would be a one time fee.  Bill Lindberg discussed how Joe has spent a tremendous amount of time and money raising funds and soliciting new members and this should justify this request.  Joe made the motion to put the logo on the checks and Russ W. Jones seconded.  The motion was carried with one opposed.

 

Joe has not received any return correspondence from the teacher at West Side concerning the Essay Contest.

 

Commander Jones presented some information on PA Systems which was received by Joe Long from the American Legion.  The small unit was $250 and a good system would cost about $400.  More discussion to be held.  Bill Lindberg will also check on some vendors.

 

NEW BUSINESS:

Joe Long received a letter from the Department of Military Affairs from the Commonwealth of PA, Northeast Veterans Center, thanking us for out donation for their Christmas Party.

 

A letter was received from Department Patriotic Instructor Charles Young concerning his current Fund Raiser.  Joe Long made a motion that the Camp buys the 25 tickets sent by Chuck to help him in his endeavor.  We will discuss this at our next meeting.

 

Secretary Shaffer read a letter from the Museum of the Union and Confederacy concerning their displeasure concerning the non-acceptance of their offer to buy the Columbian Cannon.

 

Bob Yeager presented an article from the Civil War General News of Brackenridge, PA concerning an offer to buy 2 Columbian Cannons at $22,000.

 

Secretary Shaffer will stop and get information on and cost to advertise in the Sterling Voice.

 

Commander Jones read a letter from Attorney O’Brien concerning the cancellation of the deposition.  It seems Mr. Pritchard’s attorney resigned and the deposition had to be rescheduled.

 

It was decided to conduct the annual audit at the beginning of the February Meeting with Bob Yeager, Bob Shaffer, and Bill Lindberg auditing the books.

 

There were no additional nominations for Officers so Bill Lindberg made a motion to close the nominations and Joe Long seconded.  All were in favor and all Officers were installed the same as last year.

 

Joe Long reported that Bob Price was not doing well and requested that anyone wanting to see him should call his home first.

 

The winner of the 50/50 drawing was Bob Shaffer.  Bob donated his $6.50 to the Help Member Fund.

 

With no further business, questions or discussion, a motion to adjourn was made by Bill Lindberg and seconded by Bob Shaffer.  All were in favor.
