MONTHLY MEETING
March 20, 1997
The meeting was called to order by Commander Russell W. Jones,
followed by the Pledge of Allegiance.
Other members in attendance were:

The minutes from the February
meeting were read.
A motion to accept the minutes was made by Bill Lindberg and
seconded by Dennis Rightmire.
All were in favor.
FINANCIAL REPORT:
Joe Long read the financial report with the following information:
Balance was $1,765.74.
Help members fund $136.60
77 members have paid their dues.
March winner was Jim White and February unknown.
A motion to accept the Financial report was made by Bill Lindberg and
seconded by Phil Jones.
All were in favor and the report was referred to the audit
committee.
OLD
BUSINESS:
The meeting for inventory to be held on March 15 was postponed until
March 22 because of the St. Patrick’s Day Parade.
Bill Lindberg will bring the donuts.
Russ P. Jones looked into the phone line and got prices for residential
service.
Later to find out that we would be classified a business line.
He will get prices for this type of line for the next meeting.
Essay Contest - Joe Long will look into the contest by talking
to the teacher.
His target date is April 24.
Membership is concerned that the time is too short.
NEW
BUSINESS:
Memorial Day - Christian Burns will say the Gettysburg Address. Loren Dennicola might give the Pledge of Allegiance. Ceremony to start at 10:30 a.m. Joe Long will contact Father McLaughlin and the Bugler. At least three re-enactors will be there. Bill Lindberg will MC.
Russ P. Jones made a motion to donate $20.00 to the re-enactors.
The motion was seconded by Bill Lindberg and all were in favor.
Alan Sweeney belongs to S.O.S. which is an organization that preserves
monuments. He
would like to come to speak to us about the organization.
He can’t come to the next meeting, but will attend the May meeting.
Joe Long brought in a membership application for an associate member Adam
Lehosky from
Greensburg, PA.
He also brought in a book “The Civil War, Fort Sumter to Appomattox” that all
members present at the meeting signed.
It will be sent to him.
There will be a dinner held on May 15 for the Lackawanna County Historical
Society.
The cost is $25.00 per person.
Joe Long felt it would be good for the Camp to participate and made a
motion to reimburse any member who goes $10.00.
Seconded by Mark Myers.
Five members were in favor and two opposed.
Joe Long made the motion to move the meeting for May 15 to May 14.
Seconded by Howard Lane.
All were in favor.
The Ladies Auxiliary will host the Department President on April 12 at J.J.
Supers. Joe
will contact the Department Commander and invite him to attend the same
luncheon.
Military Order of the Purple Heart will hold the State Convention here in
Scranton.
Bill Lindberg made a motion to take a ½ page ad ($35.00) in the ad book.
Seconded by Dennis Rightmire.
All were in favor.
Joe Long made a motion that we take a ½ page ad in the Department Encampment
book.
Seconded by Bill Lindberg.
All were in favor.
Joe Long submitted a bill for $60.00 for supplies.
Motion to pay Joe was made by Bill Lindberg and seconded by Dennis
Rightmire.
All were in favor.
Columbia City will have a Ceremony to honor three Medal of Honor winners from
the Civil War in Bloomsburg, PA.
Dennis will have more information at the next meeting.
50/50 drawing was won by Bill Lindberg.
With no further business, questions or discussion, a motion to adjourn was made by Dennis Rightmire and seconded by Bill Lindberg. All were in favor.
