MONTHLY MEETING

 EZRA S. GRIFFIN CAMP #8

 October 16, 1997

 

The meeting was called to order by Commander Russell W. Jones, followed by the Pledge of Allegiance.

 

Other members in attendance were:

The minutes from the September  meeting were read.  A motion to accept the minutes was made by Bill Lindberg and seconded by Joe Long.  All were in favor.

 

FINANCIAL REPORT:

Joe Long read the financial report with the following information:

     No monthly statement was received as of meeting date.

     Four checks outstanding for a total of $556.00.

     Checking account balance $876.78.

     Help fund is at $174.00.

     2 CD’s totaling $4,000.00 with interest to date of $172.59.

     October report to be filed in November.

 

A motion to accept the Financial report was made by Bob Shaffer and seconded by Russ P. Jones .   All were in favor and the report was referred to the audit committee.

 

OLD BUSINESS:

Joe Long to give his deposition around the 25th of November in the cannon case.

 

Bill Lindberg made no calls this month.  Will continue.

 

Joe Long sent for Military Records for Ezra S. Griffin.  He will try to get the prominent records of members.

 

The Open House has been put on hold.  February may be a good month.

 

Al Sweeney has not contacted Joe as of yet.

 

Bill Lindberg offered to check out the speakers for the PA System.

 

The donation voted on was sent to the Veterans Center.

 

Bill Lindberg reported on his and Joe’s visit to Carlisle.  The guest speaker was a woman who did a one person monologue about Little Round Top.

 

Talk on the restoration of the Pennsylvania Monument.  Will we contribute?

 

NEW BUSINESS:

Joe Long - nomination of Officers in November, voting to be held in December and Swearing in Ceremonies in January.

 

Commander Jones commented that people that do not attend meetings should not move up to new offices.  Look at who comes to the meetings and think it over.  All Officers should attend all meetings.

 

Secretary Shaffer brought back a Kepi Cap he had and he also presented a bill for $51.56 for expenditures.  Russ P. Jones made a motion to pay the bill and Ron Albert seconded.   All were in favor.

 

Russ P. Jones suggested that a report on the cannon issue should be made at the National Encampment next year if it has not been resolved or even if it has.

 

Joe Long will contact Bud Atkinson to purchase a copy of the Constitution and Regulations.  Russ P. Jones made a motion to buy and Bob Shaffer seconded.  All were in favor.

 

A discussion of publicity for local events was held.  It is very hard to publicize any event.  Thomas Mooney, a camp member, works for the Times Leader.  Joe Long will talk to him.

 

The Help members fund drawing was won by Phil Jones.

 

With no further business, questions or discussion, a motion to adjourn was made by Bob Shaffer and seconded by Ron Albert.  All were in favor.
