The minutes from the April
meeting were approved as read.
A motion to accept the minutes was made by Russ P. Jones and
seconded by Dennis Rightmire.
All were in favor.
FINANCIAL REPORT:
Joe Long read the financial report with the following information:
End Balance as of April - $1,491.87
March 28th still had no winner
$223.00 in Members Help fund
82 Members have paid their 1998 dues.
End Balance for May - $1,770.34
A motion to accept the Financial report was made by Bob Shaffer and
seconded by Earl Folk.
All were in favor and the report was referred to the audit
committee.
OLD
BUSINESS:
Members marching in parade on Sunday should be there between 3:00 and
3:20 p.m.
Park in high school parking lot or cemetery.
Joe will have the flags.
Flag bearers will be: Ed Walters, Dennis Rightmire and Clark
Myers.
Don will be at the church on Memorial Day at 9:30 with Russ P. Jones and
Bob Yeager for chair pick-up.
Anyone interested in helping should meet them there.
Joe and Bill will be marching in the parade in Berwick on Monday
afternoon.
Russ reported that Attorney Brier communicated to him that a trial date
has been set for either June 15th or 16th.
This will Be a Judge trial, no jury will be present.
Joe reported that Howard Lane is out of prison.
Camp dinner scheduled for October.
Joe brought in a menu from Marvelous Muggs for members to look at.
Speaker and other options were discussed.
More at June meeting.
NEW
BUSINESS:
Joe presented applications for 1 new associate member: Joseph Florek and 1
new sons application received from Howard Lane for Arnold W. Craft.
Committee for Mr. Florek’s application: Ron Albert, Mark Myers and Bob
Yeager.
Committee for Mr. Craft’s application: Russ P. Jones, Dennis Rightmire and Joe
Long.
Joe reported that any member wishing to get a badge from the National
Encampment must be present to do so.
This was attested to by our Department Commander, Glenn Knight.
Dennis reported that the Wyoming Valley Civil War Round Table adopted the
Shawnee Cemetery.
He suggested that we present them with a recognition certificate for
their efforts.
Their meeting will be held on June 17th at the Legion in Dallas.
Dennis will forward any more information.
Bob Yeager suggested that we need more clout and backing by the State.
At this time, Vice Commander Lindberg turned over the meeting to Commander
Knight. He
reported on the Department Uniform which would be a McClellan Kepi Cap with gold
wreath and number of camp with appropriate civilian attire.
Price would be approximately $40.00.
This would be recommended, but not mandatory.
He also reported on the number of camps in Pennsylvania increasing and
decreasing.
We would lose some, gain some and some would split.
Department Web Site on Internet is getting hits constantly.
Legislation on House Bills 1853 and 1863 has died.
These were setup for the purpose of restoration of monuments at
Gettysburg.
New resolution to be set in motion.
Senate Bill 119 proposed to return Memorial Day to May 30th.
Sitting in committee because a lot of various businesses do not want
it to change.
Commander Knight also talked about the Gettysburg camp and how all the
memorabilia is in jeopardy.
Many problems between the Sons and Historic Gettysburg Adams County.
He also stressed the importance of all members trying to make it to
the Encampments.
Commander Knight congratulated the Camp on being so active.
He also stated that he had contacted the National Commander about
appointing Bob Shaffer as a National Aide as Editor of the Broderbund Database
for the SUVCW.
Ron Albert brought in a 54 caliber Gallagher reproduction to show the camp.
With no further business, questions or discussion, a motion to adjourn was
made by Russ P. Jones and seconded by Mark Myers.
