MONTHLY MEETING

 EZRA S. GRIFFIN CAMP #8

June 18, 1998

 

The meeting was called to order by Sr. Vice Commander Bill Lindberg, followed by the Pledge of Allegiance.

 

Other members in attendance were:

The minutes from the May  meeting were approved as read.  A motion to accept the minutes was made by Joe Long and seconded by Phil Jones.  All were in favor.

 

FINANCIAL REPORT:

Joe Long read the financial report with the following information:

     End Balance as of May - $1,591.32

     86 Members have paid their 1998 dues.

     Help members fund $231.00

 

A motion to accept the Financial report was made by Bob Shaffer and seconded by Ron Albert.   All were in favor and the report was referred to the audit committee.

 

OLD BUSINESS:

Nay Aug Park - So far, Russ P. Jones and Joe Long will be there.  Bill Lindberg is a possible.  Still need two others.  Anyone else interested should contact Joe.  Should be at the Complex no later than 10:00 a.m.

 

Cannon - Proceedings postponed until October.  No reason was given for the delay.  Information needed is where and when the Sons were formed.

 

Encampment - Joe Long and Bill Lindberg leaving on Thursday and will be there until Sunday.

 

Dunmore Parade - Bill Lindberg, Joe Long, Dennis Rightmire, Mark Myers and Russ P. Jones all marched.  All went well, but parade was quite lengthy.

 

Memorial Day - Bill Lindberg reported that the Ceremonies went very well.  Weather was questionable at first, but did clear up.  There was a good turn out.  Ron Albert brought in pictures of his show and tell at the Birchardville Cemetery in Susquehanna County.  He was also at a cannon firing in Williamsport.

 

NEW BUSINESS:

Joe Long purchased a Civil War Spoon from a woman in Honesdale.  It was destined to be  auctioned off.  It was inscribed Post #139 with initials.  The little girl this spoon was presented to died at age 7.  Joe will get more history on spoon.  It was well taken care of.  Joe will bring up at the Memorial Association to reimburse the Camp.

 

Junior Sons - National and Department has authorized for young men between the ages of 9 and 14 years.  They can have a badge.  A motion to adopt Junior Sons was made by Bob Shaffer and seconded by Mark Myers.  All were in favor.  Camp has gone on record as approving such members.

 

At this time, Joe Long presented the Camp with applications for 2 new members.  Junior Application for Daniel Arthur: Committee - Mark Myers, Ron Albert and Phil Jones.  Member Application for Bruce Whipple: Committee - Mark Myers, Ron Albert and Phil Jones.  A motion to accept these two members was made by Bob Shaffer and seconded by Joe Long.  All were in favor.

 

Joe Long presented a bill for $77.73 which included a hand stamp for checks, postage stamps and phone calls.  A motion to pay Joe was made by Ron Albert and seconded by Mark Myers.  All were in favor.

 

Dinner - Bill Lindberg reported that 2 places have been approached for our Dinner in October, Marvelous Muggs and the 6 East Restaurant.  Will contact people at Encampment about dates.

 

Ron Albert donated a picture of the members of Post #143, Lt. Rogers Post, Brooklyn, PA.

 

No meetings to be held in July or August.

 

Bob Shaffer reported on his National Appointment as Aide to the National Signal Officer in charge of Editing the Broderbund Software SUVCW Page.

 

Ron Albert won the 50/50 drawing.  He also presented a show and tell of old cartridge boxes.

 

With no further business, questions or discussion, a motion to adjourn was made by Joe Long and seconded by Bob Shaffer.  All were in favor.
