MONTHLY MEETING

 EZRA S. GRIFFIN CAMP #8

December 17, 1998

 

The meeting was called to order by Commander Russ W. Jones, followed by the Pledge of Allegiance.

 

Other members in attendance were:

The minutes from the November  meeting were approved as read.  A motion to accept the minutes was made by Russ P. Jones and seconded by Bob Yeager.  All were in favor.

 

FINANCIAL REPORT:

Joe Long read the financial report with the following information:

     End Balance as of November - $1,513.01

     Help members fund $257.50

     Ticket winner for November - Bob Corning

     12 Members have paid dues

 

A motion to accept the Financial report was made by Bill Lindberg and seconded by Bob Shaffer.   All were in favor and the report was referred to the audit committee.

 

OLD BUSINESS:

Ron Albert reported on the Essay Contest.  He and the teacher had 10 finalists.  There will be 3 prizes given:  1st Place - $100 Savings Bond, 2nd & 3rd - $50 Savings Bond.  The Camp Committee will be made up of the Camp Commander, Auxiliary President and Ron Albert.

 

Cannon - Russ and Joe met with the Lawyer.  Came down to Veterans Soldiers Association and G.A.R. being same thing.  Cannon was received in 1909 and was presented by Representative Nichols and it was placed by G.A.R. Members.  There has been a continuance granted until February.  Don Cahoon will give his deposition in January.  Howard Bowers will testify as Board Member of Forest Hills.  All members are urged to attend to show importance of this trial.  The National Commander may also be there.

 

Bob Shaffer’s term on the Memorial Association is due to expire.  Russ P. Jones made a motion to re-appoint Bob to the Association.  Joe Long seconded.  All were in favor.

 

NEW BUSINESS:

Carl Miller donated projector, screen and slides of various Battlefields, with one being original printing of the Gravity Railroad.  The Camp appreciated his donation.

 

Secretary Shaffer reported that Department Senior Vice Commander Charles Young will take over gathering information for the Camp Chronicle, a brochure dedicated to the happenings of all the Camps.  He will get schedule of when it will be printed.

 

Secretary Shaffer presented a bill for $79.58 for postage and various supplies.  Russ P. Jones made a motion to pay the bill with a second from Bob Yeager.  All were in favor.

 

Bill Lindberg reported that Brother J.D. Jenkins will be Chairing the Department Encampment this year and he suggested that all members planning to attend should make their reservations as soon as possible.  It will be held in Lancaster, PA.

 

Joe Long presented a bill for $112.48 for postage, parking, phone calls and miscellaneous supplies.  Russ P. Jones made a motion to pay the bill with a second from Bob Shaffer.  All were in favor.

 

Bill Lindberg brought it to the attention of the Camp about the job Joe does selling the tickets for the Camp.  We wish to thank him very much for his efforts.

 

Bob Shaffer made a motion to adjourn the Camp Meeting and continue with the election of officers for next year.  Joe Long seconded and all were in favor.

 

Commander Jones read the nominations.  A motion to close nominations was made by Joe Long and seconded by Bob Yeager.  All were in favor.  Secretary Shaffer made a blanket vote for all nominations.  Russ P. Jones seconded and all were in favor.

 

A very big Thanks by the Camp members was given to Mark Myers for accepting the office of Camp Chaplain.

 

The 50/50 drawing was won by an Auxiliary member..

 

With no further business, questions or discussion, a motion to adjourn was made by Russ P. Jones and seconded by Bob Yeager.  All were in favor.
