MONTHLY MEETING

 EZRA S. GRIFFIN CAMP #8

June 17, 1999

 

The meeting was called to order by Commander Phil Jones, followed by the Pledge of Allegiance.

 

Other members in attendance were:

Bob Yeager Joe Long Ron Albert Bob Shaffer Russ W. Jones

 

The minutes from the May  meeting were approved as read.  A motion to accept the minutes was made by Bob Yeager and seconded by Russ W. Jones.  All were in favor.

 

FINANCIAL REPORT:

Joe Long read the financial report with the following information:

     End Balance as of June 16th - $2,620.25

     Help members fund $274.50

     May 29th winner was Tony Donato

     Check for $75.00 received from Veteran’s Affairs

 

We also received a check from the O’Connor’s for $100.00 that goes toward the Essay contest.  This is the third year they have donated to our cause.

 

A motion to accept the Financial report was made by Bob Shaffer and seconded by Ron Albert.   All were in favor and the report was referred to the audit committee.

 

OLD BUSINESS:

Joe Long reported that John Hart will donate the remainder of the money needed for the monument restoration survey.  Bob Yeager noted that we should get a copy of the report.

 

Joe Long made a motion to donate $20.00 to the 2nd Virginia Re-Enactors for their participation on Memorial Day.  The motion was seconded by Bob Yeager and all were in favor.

 

Memorial Day went great and we had a very good turnout.  Certificates were given to our special guests.

 

Cannon issue is still awaiting a verdict.

 

July 4th - Phil Jones will represent the Camp.  Joe Long will carry the Camp Flag.  Other Flag bearers will be named at a later date.

 

NEW BUSINESS:

Applications were received for 1 new member (William R. Esty) and three junior members (Matthew Howard Lane, Jason Michael Lane and Brent Joseph Lane).  The Committee members: Bob Yeager, Ron Albert and Russ W. Jones approved the applications.

 

A discussion was held on getting the Camp out on the Internet.    Need to get costs.

 

It was also discussed about attendance at meetings, encampments, etc.  We need to get more members involved in our activities.

 

It was also discussed about advertising the individual efforts of the members in our newsletter.

 

Secretary Shaffer produced a bill for $55.00 to cover his expenses.  A motion to pay the bill was made by Joe Long and seconded by Ron Albert.  All were in favor.

 

Phil Jones won the 50/50 drawing.

 

With no further business, questions or discussion, a motion to adjourn was made by Joe Long and seconded by Russ W. Jones.  All were in favor.
