MONTHLY MEETING
May 17, 2001
The meeting was called to order by Commander Phil Jones, followed by the Pledge
of Allegiance.

The minutes for the April meeting were read.
A motion to accept the minutes was made by Russ P. Jones and seconded
by Russ W. Jones.
All were in favor.
FINANCIAL REPORT:
Joe Long read the financial report with the following information:
88 Members have paid their dues.
Help members fund $253.50
End Balance $1,495.33
Joe also reported that a few members are going to be dropped and if all
others are not paid by the end of June, they will also be dropped.
A motion to accept the financial report was made by Bob Shaffer and seconded
by Russ W. Jones.
All were in favor and the report was referred to the audit committee.
OLD BUSINESS:
A photographer from the Scranton Times was present to take pictures of the group to be forwarded to the Television Network, which will display it on Primetime, supposedly on May 31, 2001.
Memorial Day is all set and the programs are in the final stage of printing.
Joe Long reported that Chuck Mercer has accepted to speak at the Appomattox
Dinner. Joe
was also the representative at the Jackson Street Presbyterian Church to present
the Eagle Scout Award for the Organization.
He also reported that he and Mary Jo attended the funeral of PcinC
George Long in Lancaster.
Joe also gave a talk, for the 22nd straight year, to the
West Side Middle School about the Civil War.
Auxiliary President Julie Esty also gave a talk on women’s dress.
The flags were put on Veterans graves’ on May 2nd.
NEW BUSINESS:
Secretary Shaffer reported that there has been a change to the Forms for the
National Archives, according to a document given to him by Auxiliary Member
Christine Schaefer.
He will also draft a letter to get some for the Museum.
Secretary Shaffer also submitted a bill for $97.26, which would replenish his
account and pay for articles needed for Memorial Day.
Russ P. Jones made a motion to pay the bill.
Joe Long seconded and all were in favor.
Russ P. Jones informed the Camp that the Memorial Association would change
their regular meeting schedule to the third Thursday of January, April, June and
September.
Emergency meetings would be held upon request.
The work session went well.
Many more books were tagged and catalogued.
Members attending were Bob Shaffer, John Schaefer and Phil Jones.
Auxiliary members present were Danielle Shaffer and Julie Esty.
Don Cahoon reported that there was an article in the Scranton Times about
Russ Pritchard and it stated that his partner Juno pled guilty to 17 counts.
His response was that he got in with the wrong crowd.
This proceeding is due to be aired on Primetime on May 31, 2001.
Secretary Shaffer read a correspondence from member Mark Myers in which he
stated he wanted to drop out of the Camp due to family difficulties.
Commander Jones conveyed that Mark has been an avid member and has
also held the Office of Chaplain, in which he has been at all the Memorial Day
Ceremonies.
At this time Bob Shaffer made a motion that the Camp help members fund pay
Mark’s dues for this year.
Russ P. Jones seconded and all were in favor.
Joe Long will contact Mark to let him know and also ask him to
participate on Memorial Day this year.
The meeting in June will be held on the 28th due to members
attending the Department Encampment in Johnstown.
With no further business, questions or discussion, a motion to adjourn was
made by Joe Long and seconded by Bob Shaffer.
