MONTHLY MEETING

EZRA S. GRIFFIN CAMP #8

October 18, 2001

 

The meeting was called to order by Commander Phil Jones, followed by the Pledge of Allegiance.

The minutes from the September meeting were approved as read.  A motion to accept the minutes was made by Russ P. Jones and seconded by Ron Albert.  All were in favor.

 

FINANCIAL REPORT:

Joe Long read the financial report with the following information:                    

   End balance for October was $1,377.12

     Help members fund $233.50

     1 member dropped but has since sent dues (Arthur Everett)

     Balance as of mid-October $1,518.12

     CD’s are at $6,241.18 with a net profit of $1,241.18

 

A motion to accept the financial report was made Bob Shaffer and seconded by Ron Albert. All were in favor and the report and the report was referred to the audit committee.

 

OLD BUSINESS:

Appomattox Dinner to be held on April 6, 2002 is on track.  Museum will be open for those who would like to visit.  We will hold a clean-up in Saturday, March 30, 2002.

 

Secretary Shaffer requested that anyone having any information they would like printed in the newsletter submit it to him as soon as possible.

 

Nothing new on the cannon.

 

Have received no word when Mr. Flannery would like to visit and talk to the Camp.

 

Joe received the pictures from the Primetime session.  One came out good, but the other would need to be returned as there was a defect.

 

Joe has the cloth needed to drape the Charter.  He will bring it in and store in the Museum.

 

NEW BUSINESS:

Discussion held to re-vamp regular non-association meeting to have a topic hour or round table discussion.

 

Joe Long to be honored with the “Friend of Education Award” by the Scranton Education Association on November 25, 2001 at 6:00 pm.  Joe made a motion that the Camp pay for all those who attend this function.  Russ P. Jones seconded and all were in favor.  It was also determined that this would serve as our November meeting.

 

Secretary Shaffer read an invitation to a Marker Dedication to be held at the Dunmore Cemetery on October 27, 2001 at 2:00 pm.  This is for Corporal Irwin C. Payne, Co. M, 2nd NY Cavalry 1831 – 1882.  Corporal Payne was a Medal of Honor recipient from Wayne County.

 

Discussion held on the nomination of officers for the next year: Cdr Ron Albert, SR VCdr John Schaefer, JR VCdr Howard Wolfe, Sec Bob Shaffer and Treasurer Joe Long.

 

Joe Long made a motion that the Camp pay for the luncheon for any members attending the mid-year meeting.  Russ W. Jones seconded and all were in favor.

 

Russ P. Jones made a motion to move the December meeting to the 13th.  Bob Shaffer seconded and all were in favor.

 

Secretary Shaffer made a motion that the Camp endorse Brother Joe Long for the office of Junior Vice Commander-in-Chief at the National Encampment in 2002 in Springfield, Illinois.  Ron Albert seconded and all were in favor.  Secretary Shaffer will draft the resolution for the nomination.

 

The 50/50 drawing was won by Mary Jo Long.

 

no further business, questions or discussion, a motion to adjourn was made by Bob Shaffer and seconded by Ron Albert.  All were in favor.
