MONTHLY MEETING

EZRA S. GRIFFIN CAMP #8

December 13, 2001

 

The meeting was called to order by Jr. Vice Commander John Schaefer, followed by the Pledge of Allegiance.

 

Other members in attendance were:

Russ P. Jones Don Cahoon Howard Wolfe

 

The minutes from the October meeting were approved as read.  A motion to accept the minutes was made by Russ P. Jones and seconded by Russ W. Jones.  No meeting held in November in lieu of the dinner and Award Ceremony held for Brother Joe Long.  All were in favor.

 

FINANCIAL REPORT:

Joe Long read the financial report with the following information:                    

     End balance for November was $1,093.88

     Help members fund $243.50

     33 members have paid their dues

     Balance as of December $1,544.02

 

A motion to accept the financial report was made by Russ P. Jones and seconded by Bob Shaffer. All were in favor and the report and the report was referred to the audit committee.

 

OLD BUSINESS:

No word from Mr. Flannery on the monument for the Medal of Honor recipients.

 

Secretary Shaffer reported that the mid-year meeting went well and Brother Long’s Resolution nomination him for the office of Junior Vice Commander-in-Chief was approved.

 

Russ P. Jones reported the dinner and award ceremony for Brother Long was well attended by Camp and Auxiliary members and also family and friends.

 

Secretary Shaffer reported that the marker re-dedication for Corporal Irvin C. Payne went well and many Camp and Auxiliary members attended.

           

NEW BUSINESS:

Joe Long presented an application for a new associate member, Mr. Nick Petula.  Jr. Vice Commander Schaefer appointed Joe Long, Russ P. Jones and Howard Wolfe as the application committee.

 

Secretary Shaffer presented the Camp with a copy of the Proceedings from the 2001 Annual Department Encampment held in Johnstown, Pennsylvania in June.

 

Joe Long is contacting all National and Department Heads about attending the Appomattox Day Luncheon.  Chuck Mercer is set as guest speaker.  Ella Rayburn, Curator of the Steamtown National Historic Park will also be an invited guest. There is a clean-up of the Museum set for March 20, 2002 at 9:00 am in the morning.  All members were asked to participate.  Howard Wolfe is donating a Banner for the occasion.

 

The 50/50 drawing was won by Julie Esty.

 

With no further business, questions or discussion, a motion to adjourn was made by Joe Long and seconded by Bob Shaffer and nomination of Officers was opened.  All were in favor.

 

Acting Commander Schaefer appointed Secretary Shaffer as the Interim Commander and nominations were as follows:

Commander: Ron Albert

Sr. Vice: John Schaefer

Jr. Vice: Howard Wolfe

Secretary: Bob Shaffer

Treasurer: Joe Long

 

Russ P. Jones made a motion that the Secretary cast one ballot to Close and seal nomination of all Officers.  Don Cahoon seconded and all were in favor.
