MONTHLY MEETING

 EZRA S. GRIFFIN CAMP #8

May 16, 2002

 

The meeting was called to order by Jr. Vice Commander Howard Wolfe, followed by the Pledge of Allegiance.

 

Other members in attendance were:

Joe Long Bob Shaffer Russ W. Jones Russ P. Jones Phil Jones

 

The minutes for the March meeting were read.  Secretary Shaffer also noted that due to lack of attendance, there was no meeting held in April.  A motion to accept the minutes was made by Russ P. Jones and seconded by Russ W. Jones.  All were in favor.

 

FINANCIAL REPORT:

Joe Long read the financial report with the following information:

     92 Members have paid their dues.

     End Balance for April $1,662.90

     April ticket winner – John Potis

 

A motion to accept the financial report was made by Bob Shaffer and seconded by Russ W. Jones.   All were in favor and the report was referred to the audit committee.

 

OLD BUSINESS:

Memorial Day is all set.  Joe will check with WWII re-enactor.  Russ P. Jones, Phil Jones and Howard Wolfe will pick up chairs.  Joe will check on condition of Flags in cemetery.

 

Joe Long reported that he talked to Joe Flannery on the monument.  Joe informed his that we want to be involved in the ceremony.  Mr. Flannery also stated that they do not need any more money.

 

No word from Commander Albert on the status of the Flag Case.

 

NEW BUSINESS:

Secretary Shaffer reported that there has been a change to the Sons page on the internet and he also suggested that everyone that is able should go and see the page.  There will be a vote at the Department Encampment in June to see if we should keep this page.  Brother Jim Michaels of Camp #112 has taken over as the Dept. Signals Officers after the resignation of Brother Rich Brooks from Camp #149.

 

Joe Long made a request to borrow the Camps’ American Flag and stand to take with him to Gatlinburg, Tennessee.  He and other members from his old Marine Company will be meeting there.  They will also be visiting the gravesite of one of their Lieutenant’s.  Bob Shaffer made a motion to let Joe remove the flag, Phil Jones seconded and all were in favor.

 

Secretary Shaffer brought in some Patriotic cards he received in the mail from the Lynn Card Company.  It was suggested we consider ordering some of these cards.  Russ P. Jones also stated we could use this as a fundraiser.

 

4th of July – Howard Wolfe will represent the Camp.  Russ P. Jones will carry the Spanish American War Flag, Joe Long the GAR Flag and Russ W. Jones the Camp Flag.  All other members are urged to attend the ceremony.

 

Secretary Shaffer also read General Order #4 covering the Department Encampment in June, the proposed changes to the By-Laws and the welcoming of Brother John Hart of Camp #8 as the Department Public Information Officer and Editor of the Department Newsletter to cover a bit of what was published.

 

With no further business, questions or discussion, a motion to adjourn was made by Bob Shaffer and seconded by Russ P. Jones.  All were in favor.
