MONTHLY MEETING

 EZRA S. GRIFFIN CAMP #8

May 20, 2004

 

The meeting was called to order by Commander Howard Wolfe in ritualistic manner followed by the Pledge of Allegiance.

 

Other members in attendance were:

The minutes from the April meeting were read.  It was noted that the minutes should reflect that 6 members were dropped for failure to pay dues and 2 were lost by death.  Joe also stated that Tony Brooks may transfer from Camp #1.  A motion to accept minutes was made by Russ P. Jones

 and seconded by Bob Baker.  All were in favor.

 

FINANCIAL REPORT:

Joe Long read the financial report with the following information:                    

     Per Capita tax payment of $2300.00

     Ending balance currently was $2,375.75

 

A motion to accept the financial report was made by John Hart and seconded by Mike Grayson. All were in favor and the report was referred to the audit committee.

 

COMMITTEES:

 Russ P. Jones asked when we would be initiating committees for the Encampment to be held in Scranton.  Discussion will be held when we come back from our break in September.  Joe Long reported that the Site Committee will be meeting with Radisson Hotel management after the May 29th luncheon  to finalize plans for the 2005 Encampment.

 

Application of Membership:  John Hart read the names of 22 prospective associate members of the Camp who will comprise the SVR unit.  John vouched for all these men noting their stature in the local community.  John also reported that a total of $6,714.00 had been collected to start the unit.  A membership committee comprised of Bob Baker and Mike Grayson reviewed the applications.  A motion to accept these associates was made by Joe Long and seconded by Ray Sulger.  All were in favor.  Russ P. Jones questioned the amount of Associate members the Camp was allotted.  It was stated in the rules and regulations  this amount was 1/3 of the total membership. It was noted that all Associates attending the Memorial Day Ceremony would be sworn in by the Camp Commander on that day.

 

OLD BUSINESS:

Joe Long reported that there were only 12 people registered for the luncheon.

 

Memorial Day – John Hart reported that there was no problem getting the chairs and Russ P. Jones would haul them in his truck.  Joe Long will bring the flags and they will be carried by the SVR.  John Hart was also looking into some of the members of the Dunmore High School band performing.

 

John Hart would like 16 to 20 members from the Camp to agree to form a Sons of Veterans Reserve Unit.  The initiation fee is $2.00.  From this, 3-5 members will be needed for a Color Guard.    

 

John Hart offered that Dunmore Publishing would donate ½ of the $200.00 cost of uniforms to help defray the cost of outfitting the Color Guard.  John would like to form the unit and have it active before Memorial Day.

 

Department Commander Kern will visit on May 29th.  Joe would like to arrange a luncheon at the Radisson Hotel in Scranton.  The Department President may attend as well.

 

A letter of thanks and donation of $100.00 was received from the Bradbury Camp.

 

NEW BUSINESS:

Joe Long made a motion the Camp donate $15.00 to the Department Patriotic Instructor for his Encampment fund.  John Hart seconded and all were in favor.

 

Joe Long made a motion to take the money from the Help Members Fund to pay for the $14.00 in tickets from Russ W. Jones and also $20.00 for a Junior Badge to be presented Russ’s grandson when he turns 9 years old in the fall.       

 

At 2:00 o’clock on July 4th, a service to re-dedicate the Civil War Monument in Montrose will be held.  Ron Albert asked to have the SVR Unit, if possible, and any other members who can attend to come to the ceremony.

 

On May 6th, at 6:15 p.m., all members are encouraged to meet at the Dunmore Cemetery for a detail to replace flags on the markers of Veterans graves.

 

With no further business, questions or discussion, a motion to adjourn was made by Joe Long and seconded by John Hart.  All were in favor.
