NEW BUSINESS:

Memorial Day – Everything is ready now.  Chairs will be donated by the Antique Car Club.  The tent is ready and will be donated by the Boro of Dunmore costing them $140.00.  The SVR will also visit the Forest Hill GAR Plot and Confederate Veterans Grave and will then proceed to Cathedral Cemetery.  They will then return to the home of John Hart for refreshments.  There will be a Fife and Drummer from the Fife and Drum Corps and also music by the Dunmore High School Band.

John hart made a motion to acquire 2 more wreaths for the other cemeteries to be visited after the Memorial Day Ceremony.  Bob Baker seconded and all were in favor.

Encampment – A living history display will be set up in front of the hotel.  The display will be there for 2 days, 24 hours a day.  John Hart will check with the hotel on the use of a room to display artifacts.  The room will be open from 11:00 to 1:00 on Friday and a couple of hours on Sunday.  Ads are falling behind and we need them to cover the cost of the Encampment.

John Hart is putting together a paper about the Camp and Guard to acquire new members.  The cost will be from $800.00 to $1,000.00 for about 20,000 copies.  These papers will be distributed throughout schools of Northeastern Pennsylvania as a membership drive.  A general discussion was held with concerns of funding the project.  It was suggested that we create a committee to handle fund raising events.  An annual spaghetti and meatball dinner was talked about.  It was also stated the annual Grand ball and the 28th Regimental band concert would also contribute funds.  Scott Teeters commended John Hart on his forward thinking on trying to get the youth of the area involved.

It was proposed that a special meeting be scheduled in July to discuss fund raising for the paper endeavor.  A Camp outing at Crystal Lake was mentioned.

John Hart made a motion that he publish 500 copies of the brochures, not to exceed $300.00, to be ready to be handed out at the Encampment.  Ray Sulger seconded and all were in favor.

Fife and Drum Corps – 18 children from the Maple City Fife and Drum Corp.  John Hart donated 2,200 flyers to be handed out throughout the area.  They have corporate donations for drums and uniforms.  John also discussed donations from the camp.

The SVR, John Hart and Alan Sweeney, will be hosting a book campaign.  The book by Ezra Ripple is titled “Dancing Along the Deadline”.

John Hart made a motion that Camp 8 host the Appomattox Day Dinner on April 10, 2006.  Ray Sulger seconded and all were in favor.
