Commander Baker asked if an audit of the Camp books is due. Joe Long said the audit could be done before around 6 p.m. before the September meeting, but three people should be present. Ray Sulger, Bob Sulger and Dale Keklock volunteered to be present at the audit.

OLD BUSINESS:

The GAR Museum opened on Saturday of the Memorial Day weekend. About 25 people attended.  The visitors were enthusiastic and thanked us for the opportunity to view the collection.  Howard Wolfe suggested a donations jar is needed for future events.  Commander Baker wants the museum open again around Veteran’s Day in November.  He added, the City of Scranton will run trolley tours on Friday nights this summer and maybe our group could open the museum on those occasions.

Commander Baker said the Old Mill Village in New Milford is planning a Civil War Day during the second week of September and perhaps our group could participate.

Camp 8 , the Ladies Auxiliary and the Delaney-DeLacy Guard  participated in Memorial Day Services at the Forest Hill Cemetery, Dunmore Cemetery and Nay Aug Park on Memorial Day.

Commander Baker expressed disappointment that the SVR seems to dominate the Dunmore Ceremonies because it takes away from the men we are supposed to be honoring.  Joe Long said he thinks that any SVR activities should be brought up and approved at future camp meetings. He added, the Ladies Auxiliary should also be recognized for their participation.  Howard Wolfe said Bob Baker, as Commander of Camp 8, should be our Master of Ceremonies and run the program. Commander Baker wants to appoint a committee this coming fall to plan the next Memorial Day Ceremonies.

Our unit will participate in the July Forth Flag Ceremonies at Nay Aug Park. The following persons will carry flags: Joe Long, Ray and Robert Sulger. Commander Baker would represent us with the dignitaries.  Mike Grayson volunteered to play his drum. Joe Long wants SVR members to show support by their attendance.

On Tuesday, Russ Jones, Joe Long and Howard Wolfe will meet with the Mark Perry Law Firm to discuss the sale of the building where our museum and meeting hall are located.  If the sale presents any problems a board meeting will be called.

Commander Baker, Howard Wolfe and Joe Long plan to attend the National and State Department Encampments to be held this summer in Fort Washington, PA and Harrisburg PA.

Members of Camp #8 and the Delaney-DeLacy Guard will participate in a dedication ceremony honoring John Delaney in Carbondale on June 16.

NEW BUSINESS:

New members welcomed into the camp included Ken Kenowski, associate member, and Giles Morgan.

Mike Grayson said Patty Lawler wanted to do a spot about the museum for Public Access Television.  She has spoken with Joe Long to set a date.  He told her it would have to be after the National Encampment.  Joe Long wants to meet with her first and discuss the subject matter of her critique.

With no further business, questions or discussion, a motion to adjourn was made and the meeting was closed in ritualistic manner.

Respectfully submitted,

Richard Ryczak for

Robert C. Shaffer
