MONTHLY MEETING

 EZRA S. GRIFFIN CAMP #8

November 16, 2006

 

The meeting was called to order by Commander Bob Baker in ritualistic manner followed by the Pledge of Allegiance and a Roll Call of Officers.

 

Other members in attendance were:

The Minutes of the October meeting were read and approved by a motion from John Hart and seconded by Mike Grayson.  All were in favor.

 FINANCIAL REPORT: 

Joe Long read the financial report with the following information:                    

     Winner of the 50/50 drawing was Carol Mesaris

     Members Help Fund at $197.50

     End balance of $2,575.08 in the checking account.

 

A motion to accept the Treasurer’s Report was made by John Hart and seconded by Bob Shaffer.  All were in favor.

 

OLD BUSINESS:

No information on binding of the Camp Bible.

Patty Lawler Video - The Patty Lawler video is to be aired Thanksgiving week.  No exact date was given.  She also plans to do a segment on the Spanish American War next year.

Election of Officers for 2007 - At this time, being there were no other nominations; Commander Baker asked that the Secretary Shaffer cast his vote to close the elections by Acclimation.  Secretary Shaffer then did so and the Officer for 2007 will be installed to their respective Offices in January.  All other Camp officers will be appointed by the new Commander as per regulations.

 

Appomattox Day - The luncheon date has not been set, but it will be at Genetti’s Hotel in Williamsport.

Newsletter - John Hart said our newsletter should be out early in December.

 

John Hart also requested that all SVR members going to Remembrance Day meet at 9:30am at the Cyclorama.

NEW BUSINESS:

Open House - Ray Sulger reported that we had 41 plus people at the Open House.

John Hart requested that a letter of sympathy be sent to Howard Wolfe and a $5.00 donation be sent to the SUVCW Foundation.

 

Joe Long reported that the possibility existed that we could be out of the building by the end of December.  He also reported that Attorney Parry wanted to raise the rent to $600.00.  A discussion followed on possible places to move:  Marywood College, Worthington Campus or possibly the old Mine Tour Building at McDade Park. 

 

John Hart suggested that we send a letter of Congratulations to Brother Bob Casey on election to the State Senate and Brother Smith as State Representative.

 

Commander Baker thanked soon-to-be ex-Secretary Shaffer for his many years of service and dedication to the Camp as Secretary.

Scranton Civil War Ball - The Scranton Civil War Ball will take place in April, 2007, at the Scranton Club. Ecumenical Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. at St. Rose Church in Carbondale.  A dinner precedes the Ball which begins at 8:00 p.m.  There will be no afternoon concert this year.

 

With no further business, questions or discussion, a motion to adjourn was made and the meeting was closed in ritualistic manner.
