MONTHLY MEETING
September 18, 2008
The meeting was suspended so that Commander Hart could recognize Douglas Teeters for his desire and efforts in the renovation of the Camp and his commitment to the SVR. He was given a Certificate of Commendation for his valued service.
Commander Hart then turned the proceedings over to Department Senior Vice Commander Howard Wolfe so that he could recognize the efforts of other Camp members. Scott Teeters, Ray Sulger and Mike Grayson were awarded Certificates of Recognition from Department Commander John McNulty for their dedication in the renovation of the new location for the meeting hall and museum. Brother Wolfe acknowledged that it was a privilege to recognize them for their accomplishments. Brother Wolfe also officially recognized Joe Long with a Certificate from Mayor Chris Doherty for his countless hours and dedication in persevering to get the hall and museum ready for the move and its final renovation. Brother Wolfe also incorporated a congratulatory yell or hazah to compliment these members on their achievements.
Commander Hart also added that he would like to select a committee to set up a Christmas party to be catered and held in the new meeting area. He also thanked the Ladies for joining us for the presentation of certificates.
Senior Vice Commander Ray Sulger suggested we also recognize Howard Wolfe for all he has done in the renovation of the new hall and museum.
The meeting was called to order by Commander John M. Hart Jr. in ritualistic manner followed by the Pledge of Allegiance and a Roll Call of Officers.

The minutes from the June meeting were read and a motion to approve was made
by Ray Sulger and seconded by Frost Decker.

OLD BUSINESS:
Commander Hart reported that the SVR has secured funding for the Abraham
Lincoln Monument to be dedicated in February of next year.
He also read Department Order #1 from Department Commander McNulty
which outlined his objectives and what will be happening this year.
NEW BUSINESS:
Secretary Shaffer presented the Camp with a
50 year membership Certificate for Ralph Leber.
This certificate was found at a yard sale by Mr. Roland Feister of
Ontario, Canada, and was presented to Secretary Shaffer and Joe Long.
Mr. Feister said, “he just wanted to see that it was returned to where
it rightfully belonged.”
Commander Hart suggested that we contact the Leber family and invite
them to visit the Museum to view this document.
Joe Long reported that an Open House is scheduled for Saturday, November 1st,
2008, at 1:00 p.m.
More information will be upcoming.
Joe Long also made a motion that each member attending the Department
Mid-Year meeting receives $15.00 to cover their expenses, to be paid when they
return. Bob
Shaffer seconded and all were in favor.
Howard Wolfe discussed the planning and commitment we need to accomplish to
present the Camp and promote its existence through Scranton Tomorrow.
Joe Long also commented that the museum should be open at least 1 day
a week and for any official holidays, such as Memorial Day, Flag Day and
Veterans Day.
Howard discussed the potential for a lot of exposure for the Camp.
Commander Hart reported that a traveling Museum is being considered to tour
the State for a period of five years, beginning in 2010.
James Barrett of road Scholar Trucking has volunteered to help in this
endeavor with the donation of two trailers to house the Museum.
Commander Hart appointed Bob Sulger, Howard Wolfe, Joe Long and Mike Grayson,
to assist the Auxiliary in scheduling the Christmas party, which will will be
held on either the 4th or 11th of December.
The November meeting will be moved from the 20th to the 13th
so that members attending Remembrance Day will have ample time for travel.
Commander Hart reported that the SVR will again attend Remembrance Day.
They will attend the services at the Woolson Monument in the morning
and participate in the parade in the afternoon.
Commander Hart suggested that we invite the Mayor and the Council to our
Christmas Party.
A discussion followed, but no decision was made.
FOR THE GOOD OF THE ORDER:
Bob Baker reported that at a college football game in South Carolina, the Battle Hymn of the Republic was to be played during half-time. This met with stiff opposition from everyone and we will have to see what happens.
With no further business, questions or discussion, a motion to adjourn
was made and the meeting was closed in ritualistic manner.
