A motion to accept this report was made and all were in favor.
COMMITTEES:
Ray Sulger reported on the updates to camp by-laws. Our address and amount of
dues must be updated as well as the section concerning Associates and Jr.
Associates. It must be updated to agree with National Policy and the C & R.
Howard Wolf added to that Junior members, Associates, and Jr. Associates must
now be counted toward the camps total membership.
MEMBERS IN DISTRESS:
John Hart reported that he had been with Alan Sweeney and Alan was in good
spirits and was fighting his illness. Howard Wolf made a motion to give Alan
$100.00 from the health fund and was 2nd by Joe Long. A friendly
amendment was made to pay
Alan’s dues for 2009. All were in favor and a suggestion to “pass the
hat” was approved.
Enough was collected and the remainder was put toward the $100.00 for
Alan.
MEMBERSHIP COMMITTEES:
Commander Hart
appointed a committee of
Russ Jones and Joe Ferrara to review membership applications for,
Michael Stewart Milner, Nathan Bickford Milner, and Jason Brent Milner. Joe Long
mentioned they are the sons of a long time member. The applications were
approved.
OLD BUSINESS:
The meeting was then put on hold to invite the ladies to join us to discuss
the upcoming Xmas party.
It will be held December 11 at 6:00 in the meeting hall and cost will
be $11.50 per person. A tree will be purchased and Scott Teeters volunteered to
decorate it
Commander Hart mentioned that the SVR will have between 10 & 12 members
present for the ceremony at the Woolson monument & in the parade for Remembrance
Day.
A
report on the Open House was given by several Members. It is estimated that
about 200 people attended and we received many nice complements.
NEW BUSINESS:
The GAR Memorial Association
told the Camp that a new member of the Board must be chosen by the
Camp because Phil Jones’s term is up and he has asked not to be reelected to
that position. Ray Sulger informed the Camp that a candidate for the board
must be a hereditary member as stated by the County in the original by-laws.
Robert Baker was chosen to fill that position.
Joe Ferrara
stated that his place of
employment had purchased new chairs and we could have as many as we
wanted, but
he had no way to get them.
Dale Keklock said he had a pick up and would help to get them.
FOR THE GOOD OF THE ORDER:
Brother Mike Grayson requested the following be added to the Minutes:
On Veterans Day, November 11, 2008, a replacement flag for the William W.
Waters GAR Post #414 Olyphant, PA, was presented to the Raymond Henry American
Legion Post # 327 at ceremonies in Olyphant, PA.
It was conveyed by Padric Foley on behalf of
Ezra Griffin Camp # 8, SUVCW, to keep green the memory and sacrifice
the men who left their farms, families, and what little they had in answer to
the call of President Lincoln.
Padric is the son of Olyphant patrolman James Foley. Both are members of the Griffin Camp. Upon completion of the program, he joined the firing squad and lent musket fire to the salute.
With no further business, questions or discussion, a motion to adjourn
was made and the meeting was closed in ritualistic manner.
