MEMBERS IN DISTRESS:

Commander Sulger reported that Alan Sweeney had passed away in December.  There was communication between our Commander and the National Chaplain, but no response.  Commander Sulger also contacted the Department Chaplain and he in turn sent the Camp a sympathy card.  There was no General Order to drape the charter or web site.

The By-Laws were once again addressed, but as of this date, no committee had been appointed to review them.  Commander Sulger appointed Russ Jones, Joe Long and Howard Wolfe to undertake this review.  Main topic was that of dues.

OLD BUSINESS:

An n Open House will be held on Saturday, January 17th, 2009, from 12:00 to 3:00 p.m.  Members are asked to arrive at 11:30 to prepare for visitors.  Volunteers can come in uniform, but a casual attire is recommended.  Joe Ferrara, Bob Gregory, Commander Sulger and Joe Long have volunteered to be there on Saturday.  The next Open House is scheduled for February 21, 2009.

Joe Long reported that two members of the Allied Orders have been hospitalized.  Mary Smith, Department Auxiliary Secretary had a leg amputated and Bud Atkinson, PCinC and PDC had open heart surgery.  Both are expected to make full recovery.

NEW BUSINESS:

Frost Decker reported that an estate auction will be held on Tuesday, January 20, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. at Susquehanna Ave., in Wyoming, PA.  There are items from the 143rd PA Volunteers to be auctioned off, including a presentation saber and a book on a regiment of volunteers.  Items can be viewed on-line at Cook and Steel Auctions.

Joe Ferrara  stated that the chairs were now not available.

Commander Sulger reported that the Lincoln Luncheon will be held in Philadelphia on February 7, 2009 at 12:00 noon at the Cannstatters Volksfest Verein.  Anyone wishing to attend can take a flyer and send for tickets.

Saturday, February 14, 2009, James Getty will be at the University of Scranton in honor of Abraham Lincoln’s birthday.  He will return again on February 16 for the Dedication of the Lincoln Monument.  Information concerning this can be obtained from Brother John Hart.

FOR THE GOOD OF THE ORDER:

Everyone who attended the Christmas party said that it went well.  They commented that the caterer did a great job.  Joe Long suggested we do a little more rearranging of the tables next year and he will procure more chairs for the attendees.

Commander Sulger reported that Remembrance Day this year was dismal, cold and in the low 20’s.  But this did not hamper the spirits of two camp members, Bob Baker and Douglas Teeters, who diligently marched in the parade.  They were applauded for their efforts.

With no further business, questions or discussion, a motion to adjourn was made and the meeting was closed in ritualistic manner.

Respectfully submitted,

Robert C. Shaffer

Secretary
