Memorial Day activities were discussed by Commander Sulger.
He mentioned that this will be our 109th consecutive
celebration of this glorious event.
Things to be accomplished:
We need chairs just in case there is a problem getting them from the car club. We would need between 30 to 40 chairs. If anyone knows of any please contact the commander. If we get them from the Car Club as in previous years, we need volunteers to pick them up, set them up and bring them back. If you can volunteer, please call the Commander.
The SVR Commander may want to do Forrest Hill Cemetery this year.
If you are with the SVR and you can volunteer, please call Captain
Hart or Commander Ray Sulger.
Commander Sulger also needs someone to say the Pledge of Allegiance during the Ceremony.
Though
Douglas Teeters has done a wonderful job in the past, he wants other people to
assist with the activities and to change the jobs.
If you know of anyone, please contact the commander.
We also need someone to say the Gettysburg Address, if you know of anyone,
please also let the commander know.
A guest speaker was discussed and if you know of someone, please let the
commander know.
Howard Wolfe suggested we approach someone from the University of Scranton or
Marywood to give the speech.
No decision was made at this time.
Howard Wolfe motioned that we send some money to the owners of the Johnstown
GAR Post 20 Hall owner as they are trying to refurbish the hall.
An amendment was motioned by Joseph Long to donate $100 from other
fund raising activities.
The motion was seconded by Dale Keklock – Discussion arose as to where
the money would come from.
All agreed that it would come from other fund raising activities.
Motion Passed
Howard Wolfe was approached by someone who had some old records of Union and
Confederate songs that they wanted to donate.
Howard said he will bring them in when he receives the records.
Frost Decker Announced that the Milford Historical Society was having an open
house on 18 April and 19 April and suggest that all visit and see the Flag used
to rest Lincoln’s head in his final hours.
Frost Decker also asked for assistance from any brother who knows anything
about 151st Company B.
He is researching the unit.
FOR THE GOOD OF THE ORDER:
Commander Sulger reported that the Commander in Chief still has not sent a
general order regarding Alan Sweeney’s passing.
There was no mention in the Banner either though others had passed
after Brother Sweeney.
It was recommended that a second letter be sent to rectify this
situation.
With no further business, questions or discussion, a motion to adjourn
was made and the meeting was closed in ritualistic manner.
