MONTHLY MEETING
October 15, 2009
The meeting was called to order by Commander Raymond Sulger in ritualistic manner followed by the Pledge of Allegiance and a Roll Call of Officers, with Secretary Bob Shaffer absent.

The minutes from the September meeting were read.
A motion to accept the minutes was made by Mike Grayson and seconded
by Russ Jones.
All were in favor.
Commander Sulger then asked Chaplin Scott Teeters to pass around a sympathy card
for John Michael May for all members to sign.
FINANCIAL REPORT:
Joe Long read the financial report with the following information:
End Balance as of August 2nd was
$2,176.85
Help Money - $155.00
Ticket winner for August – Russ Jones
Ticket winner for September – Ed Earley
End Balance as of September is $2,234.16
A motion to accept this report was made by Mike Grayson and seconded by Russ
Jones. All
were in favor.
Acting Secretary Bob Sulger was then asked by Commander Sulger to read a
report on the cataloging of G.A.R. Monuments and Civil War Memorials.
Commander Sulger then proceeded to complement Junior Member David Teeters on
his help as a tour guide at the September Open House.
The camp than gave a round of applause for this fine young man.
Commander Sulger then asked the Guide to present new Candidate Charles Jones
Jr. at the altar for the initiation into the Order of the Sons of Union Veterans
of the Civil War.
Afterwards, new member Charles Jones Jr. was presented with his
membership badge and certificate.
Joe Long mentioned to those not present at the meeting in September that the
Department Mid-Year Meeting would be held on October 24th, 2009 in
New Cumberland.
Commander Sulger talked about the Remembrance Day Parade coming this November
21st, 2009 and asked the First Sergeant to get a list of how many
S.V.R. members would be attending.
OLD BUSINESS:
Joe Long talked
about the Christmas Party for this upcoming season and a date was set for
Thursday night, December 3rd, 2009 at 6:30pm.
The price is $11.50 per person.
Commander Sulger than asked the Ladies to join for further discussion.
Mary Jo Long asked about decorations and a Christmas tree.
Also mentioned were games and singing Christmas carols.
Scott Teeters was asked about getting tables and he said that he can get them
from his Church.
Commander Sulger suggested that we try to have some of the members come in
Wednesday, December 2nd to help move tables and arrange the room for
the party.
Commander Sulger also talked about a grab bag gift again this year.
Mary Jo Long talked about maybe having entertainment this year and also noted
that the Ladies will supply the desserts for the party.
She also talked about what caterer to have and having a meeting in
November to decide about arrangements.
Joe Long mentioned that the Children’s Library visited the Museum on October
14th, 2009.
Open House was Saturday, October 17th, 2009.
One is planned for Saturday, November 14th, 2009.
NEW BUSINESS
Mike Grayson purchased a wireless doorbell to help with members gaining
entrance on meeting nights and for Open Houses.
Treasurer Joe Long was very glad Mike came in under budget.
Joe Long mentioned about members helping to keep the meeting room and Museum
clean.
Charles Jones said he can have his Boy Scouts help out cleaning, since they are
always looking for projects to do.
Joe Long said he would like to remodel the area by the microwave, so that it
looked more presentable, especially when visitors come in.
Commander Sulger then called for the Nominations of Officers for 2010.

A motion to accept the Nominations was made by Russ Jones and seconded
by Mike Grayson.
Commander Sulger then noted Election of Officers will be held in November.
With no further business, questions or discussion, the meeting was closed in
ritualistic manner.
