MONTHLY MEETING

 EZRA S. GRIFFIN CAMP #8

October 21, 2010 

 

The meeting was called to order by Commander Raymond Sulger in ritualistic manner followed by the Pledge of Allegiance and a Roll Call of Officers.  Secretary Shaffer was absent.

The minutes from the September meeting were read. A motion to accept the minutes was made by Bob Sulger and seconded by Frost Decker. A discussion and a correction was made: The next meeting is November11 and the next open house is November 13 due to Remembrance Day at Gettysburg.  All were in favor.

 

FINANCIAL REPORT: 

Joe Long read the financial report with the following information:

 

          End Balance as of September $3,068

          Help Money - $217.00

          August Winner: Chris Matys

          September Winner: Charles Jones - Russ Jones' Brother

 

A motion to accept this report was made by DC Howard Wolfe and seconded by Bob Sulger.  All were in favor.

 

COMMITTEES:

No Applications forwarded.

           

The next meeting is November 11, 2010 at 7:00.  The next open house is November 13, 2010 from 12 - 3 pm.

 

COMMANDER'S REPORT:

Commander Sulger reported that the Ann M Ross Camp would like to honor Ezra Griffin and his relative at Nay Aug Park.  It was passed onto Brother Frost Decker, but said that it may not be practical to have someone represent the camp.  Questions and answers followed.

 

OLD BUSINESS:

The camp Meeting was suspended to allow the Ladies Auxiliary to discuss the upcoming Christmas party to be held at the museum on December 2nd.  The Christmas party will start at 6:30 pm.  The ladies wanted to keep the prizes the same.  Friends are encouraged to attend.  A discussion was held asking anyone can help Scott Teeters, and to let him know.   The meeting was reinstated.

 

Open House - 3 or 4 members will attend the open house.  Next Open house will be held on October 23, 2010.

 

Joe Long discussed the Appomattox Luncheon to be held on Saturday, April 9, 2011.  Joe said that he wants the camp to pay the dues A.S.A.P.

 

NEW BUSINESS:

Bob Baker reported that he had the opportunity to visit the WWII Monument in Washington, D.C. with about 100 Veterans who served there were flown by Honor America.  Bob also reported from the Sesquicentennial Committee that on November 15th, there will be a speaker to discuss the 150th Anniversary of the Election of Abraham Lincoln at the National Civil War Museum.

By Order of the Commander:

Joe Long reported that Mrs. Flannery donated some Civil War books to the camp.

 

Joe Ferrara reported that the National Encampment of the Son's of the Spanish War Veterans may be held in Scranton at the end of July 2011.

 

Joe Ferrara also reported on the Easton Historical Cemetery stating that the Cemetery has many Civil War Graves, GAR Cannon and a Son's of Union Veterans Stage, which at one time allowed them to present ceremonies.

 

The meeting was closed @ 8:50 pm in ritualistic manner to present the slate of officers.

A discussion was held to solicit an assistant treasurer to help Joe Long as needed.
