MONTHLY MEETING

 EZRA S. GRIFFIN CAMP #8

November 11, 2010

 

The meeting was called to order by Commander Ray Sulger, followed by the Pledge of Allegiance.

The minutes for the October meeting were read.  A motion to accept the minutes was made by Mike Grayson and seconded by Bob Sulger.  All were in favor.  

 

FINANCIAL REPORT:

Joe Long read the financial report with the following information:

     End Balance for November 5th - $2,975.10

     Help Money - $217.00

     No ticket winner as of yet

APPLICATION FOR MEMBERHSIP:

Secretary Shaffer received an application for Membership from the Department Jr. Vice Commander for Thomas C. Post of Lake Ariel, PA.  His ancestor was John Pross of the 5th Pennsylvania Cavalry.  His form 30 was reviewed and initialed for our records.

The meeting was then suspended so that pictures could be taken of the Past Commanders for official record.

 

OLD BUSINESS:

The meeting was again suspended so that the Ladies could be invited in to finalize the Christmas Party.  Mary Jo Long reported that the party is to be held December 2nd, 2010 at 6:30pm, at a cost of $12.50 per person.  Checks are to be made to Auxiliary #10 and must be received by November 26th.  A call for volunteers to help Scott set up was made and anyone wishing to help should be at the Museum on Tuesday evening, November 30th.  The Ladies will bring desserts.  A grab bag of $10.00 will be held, men for men and women for women.  Bob Sulger was unofficially volunteered to be the ticket taker for the grab bag.  There will also be a 50/50 drawing.

 

NEW BUSINESS:

Department Commander Howard Wolfe summarized the Mid-Year Meeting for those that were unable to attend.  A brief synopsis is as follows:  Discussion of Officers Reports; Department Commander suggested establishing a Memorial Fund; Flag loaned to Camp may actually be donated to the Camp and then loaned to the Museum; Department Treasurer still updating records from Past Treasurer; GAR Memorials Committee established and discussion held as to what will be accomplished; 2 new Camps, one in Greensburg, PA and one in Sunbury, PA; a discussion on the Sesquicentennial.

FOR THE GOOD OF THE ORDER:

Commander Sulger reported that on November 15th, the Scranton Cultural Center will host the Author of Gods and Generals for presentation.  Call the Center for tickets.

The meeting was closed for the Installation of Officers.

A motion was made by Russ Jones and seconded by Chet Kowalski that, being only one person was nominated for each Office, the Secretary cast one vote in Acclimation that all nominations be closed.

Outgoing Commander Ray Sulger was acknowledged for his service and the Past Commanders Badge was pinned to him by his wife, Mary Rose Sulger.  Department Commander Howard Wolfe then presided over the Installation of the Officers for 2011.

With no further business, questions or discussion, a motion to adjourn was made by John Hart and seconded by Joe Long.  All were in favor.
