MONTHLY MEETING

 EZRA S. GRIFFIN CAMP #8

June 16, 2011

 

The meeting was called to order in ritualistic manner by Commander Robert Sulger followed by the Pledge of Allegiance and a Roll Call of Officers.

The minutes for the May meeting were read and a motion to accept by Mike Grayson and seconded by Scott Teeters.  All were in favor..   

 

FINANCIAL REPORT:

Joe Long read the financial report.

          Per Capita paid for the year: $3,724.00

          April Ticket winner was Charles Jones

          May Ticket winner not yet known

          Help Member Fund $217.00

 

A motion to accept the financial report was made by Ray Sulger and seconded by Mike Grayson.  All were in favor.

 

SICK MEMBER: 

Joe gave a brief report on his condition.

 

OLD BUSINESS:

The Department Encampment will be held on June 23 thru 25, 2011.  Opening ceremonies will be Friday morning at 8:45am.  Registration begins at 8:00am.  Joe reported that there are about 120 people registered for the Banquet.  Campfire will be Friday night at 5:30 pm.  He also suggested making arrangements to get items from the Museum.  He also suggested that we have the Museum open on Sunday morning from 9:00 am to 2:00 pm for those individuals staying overnight Saturday.  Scott Teeters asked that everyone stay after the meeting to help spruce up the Museum and put things away.

 

Ray Sulger gave a brief synopsis of the SVR activities planned during the Encampment, Dunmore Cemetery at 7:00 pm and reception afterward at the Everhart Museum at 8:00 pm.

 

Memorial Day went well, except for the PA system malfunction.

 

NEW BUSINESS:

Joe asked for volunteers for the 4th of July ceremony at Nay Aug Park.  Three people will be needed to carry flags and one as a dignitary.  The following members showed interest:  Ray Sulger, Bob Sulger, Howard Wolfe and Don Holdridge.  All are asked to contact Joe as soon as possible with answer.

 

CORRESPONDENCE: 

Three General Orders ( 2 National and 1 Department).  A letter from a Sophomore at Honesdale High School, Lizzy Bianchi, about her Senior Project replacing the hilt of a sword on the Statue of Colonel Benjamin Christ at the Antietam National Battlefield.  Secretary Shaffer was tasked to contact the individual for further information.

 

FOR THE GOOD OF THE ORDER:

Open House schedule for the next three months:  July 16th, August 20th  and September 17th.  Ray Sulger suggested that anyone attending Remembrance Day in November should reserve their rooms as soon as possible.

 

With no further business, questions or discussion, a motion to adjourn was made and all were in favor.
