NEW BUSINESS:

Scott Teeters reported that at the Mid-Year meeting there were discussions on the 2-deep leadership issues facing the department.  This has to deal with younger members, visitors, etc. not being alone with one adult and there must be two adults present at all times.  There is training available on the Boy Scout website pertaining to this issue.  Howard Wolfe reported that the Department has suspended the induction of any Junior or Associate Junior Members in the Department.

Joe Long reminded all present about the Open House on Saturday January 18th.  He asked that anyone available to come and help out.

Scott Teeters lead a discussion about how we handle being "Ambassadors" for the Civil war and how we and other organizations must work together to keep the information highway going in the same direction and have no dissention among the groups.  Howard Wolfe said we will always have personality clashes, but we must strive not to let this hinder us.  Hal Myers, a Civil war guide and researcher, said we must be able to differentiate between fact and fiction.  Researching and knowing your subject matter is a must; search regimental histories, check dates on controversial facts.  Do not take the Official Records as gospel because they are not complete.  When researching, find first-hand accounts and check maps for information.

Dave Teeters, the Patriotic Instructor, gave a talk on the Atlanta Campaign.

Secretary Shaffer reported that the information for the Department Encampment is incomplete.  No information was available for the banquet and luncheons.  This information will be sent out at a later date.

The Ladies were then asked to join us for a musical selection by Brother Mark Myers on his accordion, a sing along, the Battle Hymn of the Republic.

With no further business, questions or discussion, the meeting was closed in ritualistic manner.

                          Respectfully submitted,

 Robert C. Shaffer

    Secretary
