MONTHLY MEETING

 EZRA S. GRIFFIN CAMP #8

April 16, 2015

 

The meeting was called to order in ritualistic fashion by Commander Dale Keklock.

The minutes for the March meeting were read.  A motion was made to accept the minutes by Hal Myers and seconded by Bob Gregory.  All were in favor.

 

Joe Long read the financial report with the following information:

     Help member fund $290.50

    March Ticket Winner - Mary Jane Bannan

 

A motion to accept was made by Craig Kelly and seconded by Hal Myers.  All were in favor.

 

APPLICATIONS:

A vote was then taken by use of the Ballot Box for new member Mark Zurinski.  All were in favor.

 

CORRESPONDENCE:

Cameo Bus Trip to Gettysburg

 

Scott Teeters talked about the preservation of GAR records.  He has started making calls, but will now be done on weekends in the Wyoming County area.  Nothing from Dale or Darren.

 

OLD BUSINESS: 

Craig reported that ha had checked Nay Aug and the Flag had still not been replaced.  Spoke to a Mr. Lynch and the Flag has now been replaced.  He also reported he would bring some chairs to the Ceremony at Nay Aug.  Wreath lying by Commander Dale Keklock and Ladies President Danielle Shaffer.  Mark Myers will bring his accordion for the Battle Hymn of the Republic.

 

NEW BUSINESS:   

Memorial Day -Joe has yet to contact the Cemetery about blocking off the road.  Scott Teeters discussed the seating arrangements all subject to if the road can be blocked.  All Members should be at the GAR Plot by 10:00am.  It was suggested to use two of the battery operated sound systems with two microphones.  Color Guard will meet at the GAR Plot at 10:00am.

 

Howard Wolfe suggested that we evaluate the sound system on Saturday at Nay Aug.

 

The meeting was then suspended to invite the Ladies to join us.  Nay Aug was discussed and it was noted that Junior Ladies Member Larissa Ellsworth would lead the Pledge of Allegiance.  Craig said that a notice was sent to the local newspaper.  Danielle Shaffer said it had been sent to other papers in Wayne and Lackawanna Counties.

 

Memorial Day - Larissa Ellsworth will do the Pledge of Allegiance.  Others needed for the Gettysburg Address and Logan's Orders.

 

We will also be doing the Ceremony for the departed Brothers at the May meeting.  The Ladies were invited to join us.  Members should wear their Kepi's on that night.

 

New Brother Mark Zurinski was then sworn in by PDC Howard Wolfe.

 

The Ladies were then excused and the meeting continued.

 

Howard Wolfe reported that there was a post on the internet for a purchase of a vanity license plate with the PA monument inscribed, with proceeds going to monument preservation.

 

GOOD OF THE ORDER: 

Craig Kelly listed the upcoming events: Grand Civil War Ball at the Century Club in Scranton and also a play about the Assassination of President Abraham Lincoln.  Hal Myers donated two books to the Museum.  First, a book about former Commander of Post 139, Howard A Long and the other, The First Century in which he had helped write.  Mark Myers reported on his recent trip to Virginia: Jamestown, Lynchburg, and especially Appomattox where his ancestor had been with the 17th PA Cavalry.  Mark Myers also requested that everyone join his family at the Ceremony at the Scott Valley Cemetery in Montdale, PA, on May 30th for the dedication of the Memorial for his Ancestors.

 

50/50 drawing won by Secretary Shaffer.

 

With no further business, questions or discussion, the meeting was closed in ritualistic manner.
