MONTHLY MEETING

 EZRA S. GRIFFIN CAMP #8

October 15, 2015

 

The meeting was called to order in ritualistic fashion by Senior Vice Commander Craig Kelly.

 

Other members in attendance were:

Patriotic Instructor Hal Myers asked for a moment of silence for James Getty, who portrayed President Lincoln in Gettysburg and other areas.  He will surely be missed by all who knew him.

 

The minutes for the September meeting were read.  A motion was made to accept the minutes by Hal Myers and seconded by Joe Long.  All were in favor.

 

Joe Long read the financial report with the following information:

     Help member fund $336.00

     June and July Winners are not known, Joe will let us know

     September ticket winner - Stanley Mattis

 

A motion to accept was made by Hal Myers and seconded by Dave Teeters.  All were in favor.

 

COMMITTEES:

Scott and Hal still working, will have a report at a later date.

 

CORRESPONDENCE:

General Orders on Rememberance Day, D.O. on Mid Year Meeting on October 17, 2015, Letter to Dept. Secretary for return of donated funds with answer that check would be sent soon.

 

OLD BUSINESS: 

Craig Kelly reported that the Dedication of the Vietnam War Memorial was well attended.  Members of the Camp and Ladies Auxiliary were present.  There were 54 men and 1 woman on the Memorial. 

 

He also added that the Dunmore Cemetery tours went well.  Julie Esty of the Ladies Auxiliary did a great job, along with the Departed Players and local actors and U of S students.  This year's focus was on Criminal Intent. 

 

On October 11th, there was also a ceremony for Lona B. Day, a Spanish American War veteran and Scranton Police Chief.  October 15th was proclaimed as Lona B. Day day by Mayor Cortright of Scranton.  A Proclamation was read by Craig Kelly and afterward this proclamation was donated by Julie to the Camp for display in the Spanish American War room, which is under the care of Mark and Alana Zurinski, Mark Myers and Julie Esty.

 

The Camp was well represented at both events.

 

There was also a Book Binding Drive, with forms made by Howard Wolfe.

 

Joe Long requested as many people as possible to be present for the Open House on Saturday, October 17th.

 

NEW BUSINESS:   

Joe Long also informed us oin the Meeting on November 19th and Open House on November 21st.  The meeting will be short and then we will have a Pizza Party.  A donation of $5.00 will be collected from all attending.  PLEASE LET BOB SHAFFER KNOW BY EMAIL AS SOON AS POSSIBLE IF YOU PLAN TO ATTEND, SO THAT A TOTAL HEAD COUNT CAN BE MADE.  There will also be a Meeting on December 17th and Open House on December 19th.  Please make every effort to attend these events.

 

Secretary Shaffer nominated Gerard O'Malley as a member of the GAR Memorial Association and was seconded by Hal Myers.  All were in favor.

 

It was also decided to drop Bob Baker from the Camp Council and install Mark Zurinski as the new Council Member.

 

GOOD OF THE ORDER: 

Brother Hal Myers briefly spoke on the need to have all Officers present at all meetings.  He also suggested that we put on a feeler out to Ken Serfass, who portrays General U.S. Grant, to see if he would be available to put on a program in the April time frame.  Hal will contact him and get the informationa nd will report at the next meeting.  He may also be able to get a Civil War Marine Band to play at some time also.  Howard Wolfe suggested that we contact the local University to host this event.  He also suggested that we contact Jerry Skotleski to see if the Scranton School district would be able to help out.

 

With no further business, questions or discussion, the meeting was closed in ritualistic manner.
