MONTHLY MEETING

EZRA S. GRIFFIN CAMP #8

September 17, 2016  

 

The meeting was called to order in ritualistic fashion by Commander Craig Kelly.

The minutes for the June meeting were read.  A motion was made to accept the minutes by Hal Myers and seconded by Jerry O'Malley.  All were in favor.

 

The financial report was read by Joe Long with the following information:

          July ticket winner - Gene Wasuzck

          August ticket winner - Dan Magee

Commander Kelly reported that James Jones, Eagle Scout Coordinator was absent and his report on a Court of Honor in Dunmore will be given at the next meeting if he attends.

OLD BUSINESS:

Joe Long asked Hal Myers, Chairman of the Library Committee to give a brief on how the project is going.  Hal said it is moving along well with almost three quarters of the work completed.  He also stated this will make us more visable and popular, hopefully, for researchers.  Howard Wolfe has purchased a color laser printer for use during the Open House so information is available for visitors.

Jerry O'Malley thanked Dotty Kelly for putting the announcements in local papers and such about our meetings and open houses.

 

NEW BUSINESS: 

Joe Long, President of the GAR Memorial Association reported that Member Mark Myers resigned.  He nominated Mark Zurinski to fill this vacancy.  Hal Myers seconded and all were in favor.

 

Commander Kelly asked for a memont of silence in respent of POW/MIA Recognition Day.

 

It was voted on and approved that our next meeting will be held on October 15, 2016 at 10:30 at the Museum with an Open House to follow at 12:30.

 

The meeting was then suspended and the Ladies were asked to join us.  The Dunmore Cemetery Tours are to be held on OCtober 2 and October 9, 2016 were discussed.  We will have a table set up from 1:00 to 2:00pm to give out information to visitors on the GAR, Sons and Ladies.  It is a great way to advertise our organization.  The Ladies were also asked to get back with us on a plan for the Christmas Party.

 

Commander Kelly reported on the luncheon to honor our new Department Commander John S. Frantz and Department President Deborah Schiesser.  Info available on website.

 

Remembrance Day is Saturday, November 19, 2016, and Camp Color Bearer Giovan Lisi has requested to carry the Camp Flag again this year.  Permission was granted.

 

There will be no meeting in December.  Nomination of Officers will be held in November and Installation of Officers will be held in January.

 

Joe Long stated that he did not know until recently of the Race for the Cure and how it was affecting traffic.  He stated we should have the Museum open and that we should think about having it open when this event happens next year.  We will have to check for more information.

 

Commander Kelly introduced our new member Timothy Chase.  It was his first meeting and he wished to him welcome.

 

FOR THE GOOD OF THE ORDER: 

Jerry O'Malley reported on the lecture at the CW Roundtable at the Historical Society.

Mark Zurinski said there will be a talk on Camp Wyoming at the Forty Fort Metting House by Steven Killian.

 

With no further business, questions or discussion, the meeting was closed in ritualistic manner.
