MONTHLY MEETING
EZRA S. GRIFFIN CAMP #8
March 17, 2018
The meeting was called to order in ritualistic fashion by Commander Mark
Zurinski.

The minutes for the February meeting were read. A motion was made to accept
minutes as read by Jerry Skotleski and seconded by Hal Myers. All were in favor.
The financial report was read by Joe Long.
Ticket Winner for February was Jerry O’Malley.
A motion was made to accept minutes as read by Giovan Lisa and seconded by Jerry
Skotleski. All were in favor.

EAGLE SCOUT COORDINATOR:
Secretary Shaffer read Jim Jones’ report with the following information.
In February, three Eagle Scout Awards were presented by the Commander. He
is working with the head of the Military Science Department at Wilkes University
on selecting the Cadet for the Distinguished Cadet Award. He is expecting
the other schools applications on March 19th. Ceremonies will
be scheduled for the end of April.

LIBRARY COMMITTEE:
Jerry O’Malley reported that progress on the book project has been held up, but
they will continue to end as soon as possible.
EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE:
Jerry O’Malley reported on the following: Camp Newsletter has been
suspended due to cost consideration. Events, activities and other
information are placed on Facebook and the Camp web site. Commander
Zurinski commended Secretary Shaffer and Auxiliary Member Dani Shaffer on the
way the web site is hosted. He also reported on a proposed event to honor
a Civil War Veteran in Dunmore Cemetery at the Memorial Day Ceremony. Name
to be forthcoming. Hal Myers is contacted the County Commissioners about a
Grant. Ladies President Alana Zurinski reported on the profit from
the candy sale. They also discussed a contingency plan for the Museum.
Next Meeting for the Executive Committee is April 7, 2018.
Jerry Skotleski reported that he has secured Brian Keator Sr. as our Guest
Speaker on Memorial Day. He has given him options for his talk. Joe
Long has sent a letter to the Dunmore High School to invite the Band, no reply
as of yet. He also said he will get a wreath for the ceremony for the
Civil War veteran honoree.
Jerry O’Malley has forwarded his PI Instructor Report to the Department and has
also placed one in the Camp files.
NEW BUSINESS:
Dale Keklock reported that a member of the Old Forge Historical Society
contacted him about free tables from the Eagle McClure Fire Department and said
we could ask for some. Joe Long suggested that Dale put in for three
tables. He also reported on a video “The Free State of Jones” and
recommended everyone to see it.
The Armed Forces Day Parade is on May 19th and the Color Guard
will be marching. Anyone else interested in marching may do so, but must
be in appropriate attire. Craig Kelly also asked for Members to consider
joining the Color Guard. For more information, contact Craig.
Hal Myers made a motion to make an amendment to the Camp By-Laws. Proposal
is to change meeting date to Saturday instead of Thursday. Craig Kelly
seconded. A notice will be sent to all Camp members. Dept. Commander
Chris Carty also informed the Camp that a General Order had also been issued and
should be checked. Upon further discussion, it was decided to review the
General Order and make any necessary changes at this time. Secretary
Shaffer will research this.
The Flag Detail for the Cemeteries is scheduled for May 5, 2018.
GOOD OF THE ORDER:
Hal Myers suggested we clean up and move things around for our Guest Speaker,
Ken Serfass, next Saturday. Giovan Lisi reported on his participation in
the Remembrance Day Parade at Gettysburg. He carried the Camp Flag and has
added a streamer to it.
He also marched with Department Commander Chris Carty.
PATRIOTIC INSTRUCTION:
Jerry O’Malley continued his report on the year 1863 which included the
disturbances and Battle of Vicksburg and the Rebel control of the River.
He also stated that Mr. Serfass will cover this more in depth in his talk.
With no further business, the camp was closed by Commander Zurinski in
ritualistic manner.
