MONTHLY MEETING

EZRA S. GRIFFIN CAMP #8

February 16, 2019  

 

The meeting was called to order in ritualistic fashion by SVC Jerry Skotleski.

Guests: Dept. Commander Chris Carty and Brother Ken Snook, General J.P.S. Gobin Camp #503 - Sunbury

 

The minutes for the November meeting  (no meetings were held in December or January) were read. A motion was made to accept minutes as read by Dale Keklock and seconded by Jerry O'Malley. All were in favor.

 

The financial report was read by Bob Shaffer.  A motion was made to accept minutes as read by Howard Wolfe and seconded by Jerry O'Malley. All were in favor.

 

SICK MEMBER:

Joe Long has been sidelined by a bout with a cold.

 

APPLICATIONS:

Two applications are in process for Gary Cipriano and Douglas Schrieber.  An initiation ceremony is scheduled for March 16, 2019.  Howard Wolfe will be the Installing Officer.

 

EAGLE SCOUT COORDINATOR: 

Jim Jones sent his report that had two awards being presented in December to Eagle Scouts in Troop #174, Dingmans Ferry, PA.  A court of Honor was held on February 10, 2019 in Dickson City where SVC Jerry Skotleski made the presentation.  Jim is also looking for additional volunteers to join his committee.  Key personnel for the Eagle Scout program were contacted as volunteers and staff assignments change annually.  He also reported that the Universities have been contacted for this year's ceremonies.  Jim is also developing high school contacts for JROTC program and working to establish a Girl Scout Gold Award Certificate which has not been endorsed by National as of yet.

                                                             

CORRESPONDENCES:

D.O. #4, By-Law Updates to Department; G.O. #8, Passing of Real Son Frederick M. Upham; Lackawanna County Affairs for Flags for Memorial Day; and Letter from Hawley Borough requesting we consider involvement in their functions.

 

LIBRARY COMMITTEE:

Jerry O'Malley reported that the labeling of books has been completed.

 

OLD BUSINESS:

Questions raised about the Lease.  Secretary Shaffer reported that at present we have given up the Ladies Room and in process of getting the Coffee Room cleaned out.  We do not know when they will need that room.

 

NEW BUSINESS: 

SVC Jerry Skotleski reported that he volunteered to be a member of the Veterans Memorial Committee at the Scranton School.  They are preparing a curriculum to get other school involved.  He will update any other information at upcoming meetings.

 

Commander Jones also wished that we consider other ways to become better known, such as: lectures, parades and cemetery ceremonies, special observances.  He also suggested special activities to set up tables such as gun shows, community events acquiring supporters donations.

          

PATRIOTIC INSTRUCTOR:   

PI Jerry O'Malley gave a talk on the events that occurred during the month of February 1864.

 

Bill Fischer complemented Jerry on his talk and thanked him for his presentation.  Bill also commented that he and our guest, Ken Snook, attended the Lincoln Luncheon, which was well attended by other Brothers and Sisters of the Department.

With no futher business, the Camp was closed by Acting Commander Jerry Skotleski in ritualistec manner.
