MONTHLY MEETING

EZRA S. GRIFFIN CAMP #8

September 21, 2019  

 

The meeting was called to order in ritualistic fashion by Commander James Jones.

The minutes for the June meeting were read. A motion was made to accept minutes as read by Lance Stange and seconded by Jerry Skotleski. All were in favor.

 

The financial report was read by Joe Long. 

          Help Fund - $185.00

A motion was made to accept the financial report as read by Dale Keklock and seconded by Travis Andes.  All were in favor.

SICK MEMBERS:  

Secretary Shaffer reported that the Oncologist for his daughter Mallory has stopped her chemo treatments.  She is doing real well. 

 

Mark Myers has decided to resign from the Camp due to his ongoing illness as well as being a caretaker for his wife.

 

EAGLE SCOUT COORDINATOR: 

Commander Jones reported that there are a couple of awards pending for the fall.  He thanked all those members who have stepped up to help with the award presentations during the year.  He also hopes to get more members involved.

 

OLD BUSINESS:

Railfest was cancelled for this year.  Jerry O'Malley reported that there were a lot of changes being made.

The second reading of the motion to raise duies from $38.00 to $39.00 was recorded so as to fulfill the Amendment to the By-Laws.  The final reading will be held at the October meeting.

 

NEW BUSINESS:

A motion was made by Secretary Shaffer to nominate Bill Fischer and Dale Keklock to the Board of Directors of the GAR Memorial Association.  Jerry Skotleski seconded and all were in favor.  A discussion was also held on the need for the Camp to elect members to the board.

 

Commander Jones attended the Department Encampment at Valley Forge.  He said the experience was great and he also was there when Auxiliary member Judy Wolfe was presented with the Walker Award.  The next encampment will be held in Altoona.  He also attended the National Encampment in Cleveland, OH.  It was well attended and the Guest Speaker was the Commander-in-Chief of the Department of the Confederacy.  Next encampment will be in Marietta, GA.

 

Jerry O'Malley reported that members of the Civil War Round Table of the Lackawanna County, Historical Society would like to visit the Museum and hold a meeting there.  A tentative date is February 18, 2020.  Jerry will confirm and get back to the Camp.

 

Craig Kelly reported that Julie esty and the Departed Players will once again hold an event at the Dunmore Cemetery on the first and second Sunday in October.  Julie will be portraying a Past President of the Civil War Auxiliary.

 

Joe Long is once again selling raffle tickets.  If you would like to purchase tickets and help out the Camp, please contact Joe and he would gladly send them to you.  The next drawing date is October 19, 2019.

 

Commander Jones also reminded the Camp about nomination of Officers for the next year at the October meeting.

 

FOR THE GOOD OF THE ORDER:

Craig Kelly asked that we observe a moment of silence in support of POW/MIA Day.  Our gurst, Chris Carty, reminded everyone that Remembrance Day in Gettysburg is coming up in November.

 

PATRIOTIC INSTRUCTOR:

PI Jerry O'Malley chronicled the events of 1864.  The Battles of Gettysburg and Vicksburg were over.  In August 1864, Petersburg was under siege and the Presidential Election was on the horizon.

 

With no further business, the camp was closed in ritualistic manner by Commander Jones in ritualistic manner.
