MONTHLY MEETING

EZRA S. GRIFFIN CAMP #8

February 15, 2020

 

The meeting was called to order in ritualistic fashion by Commander James Jones.

 

Other members in attendance were:

Officers Excused: SVC Jim Jones and JVC Mike Passero

 

The minutes for the November meeting were read. (There was no meetings in December or Januiary).  A motion was made to accept minutes as read by Dale Keklock and seconded by Howard Wolfe. All were in favor.

 

Howard Wolfe, the acting Treasurer gave a brief sypnosis of events.  he has started a new account at the Penn Security Bank and Trust.  Numerous checks have been deposited in that account.  The accoutn at Fidelity is still open, but will be transferred very soon.  A motion to accept his report was made by Bob Shaffer and seconded by Jerry O'Malley.  All were in favor.

SICK MEMBERS:  

Commander Skotleski commented on the passing of his mother and gave some details on her funeral.  He thanked members for their thoughts and kind words.

 

Commnder Skotleski suspended the meeting and asked PDC Howard Wolfe to oversee the Initiation Ceremony to initiate Dave Soskin into the Camp.

 

OLD BUSINESS:

Bill Fischer, Department Graves Registration Officer, reported on the last county CW veteran burial.  He has devised a fill-in PDF form and has sent it out to the Camps.  He also asked Howard if it could be placed on the Department Website.  He will update as info is provided.  Howard also requested a description of purpose of the project to also be placed with the form.  Bill will also ask for local Historical Societies for their input.  Markers can be procured from the Department of Wisconsin.

 

Commander Skotleski also asked the members to over look the 2020 budget to see what can be done to reduce expenses.

 

Jerry O'Malley reported the people from the Round Table will be in on Tuesday between 7 and 8pm to have a quick meeting and then tour the Museum.  He also asked if he could get some members there to help out with the Museum.  He also stated a picture of the group at the Nay Aug Ceremony was in the Banner.

 

The Ladies were then asked to join us and President Linda Snook reported they have adopted a name change for the Auxiliary which would be Auxiliary #10 Bannan-Long.  She also outlined a calender of events planned for the Ladies and said she likes to march in parades.  She also asked the men to join in.

 

FOR THE GOOD OF THE ORDER:

Commander Skotleski reported that Fred Keller of the 12th Congressional District would be asked to speak at Memorial Day.  he also asked that if anyone has any other ideas, please let him know.  More discussion to be held at upcoming meetings.

 

PATRIOTIC INSTRUCTOR:

PI Jerry O'Malley gave a report on the events happening in the months of November and December 1863.  Some being Sherman's march to Atlanta.  There was also an attempt by Confederates (The Copperheads) to burn a hotel in New York City.  Everything fell flat.

 

Sherman's Army arrived in Savannah, GA in December and in January there was a second attack at Fort Fisher.

 

With no further business, the camp was closed in ritualistic manner by Commander Skotleski.
