MONTHLY MEETING

EZRA S. GRIFFIN CAMP #8

September 19, 2020 

 

The Zoom meeting was called to order in ritualistic fashion by Commander Jerry Skotleski.

 

Other members in attendance were:

Officers Excused:  Jr. Vice Commander Mike Passero and Treasurer Howard Wolfe

Guest: Danielle Shaffer, Ladies Bannen-Long Auxiliary #10

 

The minutes for the August meeting were read. A motion was made to accept the minutes as read by Jim Jones and seconded by Craig Kelly. All were in favor.

 

Commander Skotleski gave a brief summary of the Treasury.  Secretary Shaffer has ordered membership cards and certificates, should be received in a week or so.  He also purchased postage stamps.  A motion was made by Jim Jones to accept the report and seconded by Hal Myers.  All were in favor.

 

Secretary Shaffer will be sending out dues statements the first week of October.

 

APPLICATIONS:   

No info about two new members from Dale Keklock.

 

EAGLE SCOUT COORDINATOR:  

Jim Jones reported that in Arizona that their first female Eagle Scout will be awarded in February 2021 by the Grand Canyon Council.  He said that we needed to be part of this amazing event and asked that the Sons to present to her a Certificate of Commendation.  This will be done by a local Sons camp in Arizona.

 

CORRESPONDENCE:  

There were more General and Department Orders that have been emailed to members.

OLD BUSINESS:  

Finances – there will be a meeting on Saturday, October 3rd or on Columbus Day either at the Hall or another location to go over the budget for 2021.

 

The Dunmore Cemetery Tour will be held on October 4th from 2pm to 4pm and all asked attending to bring canned goods for their Feed a Friend program.

 

NEW BUSINESS:  

Jim Jones asked the Commander if a letter should be sent to City Hall to find out when we can return to our meeting room.  Hal Myers will check with the Mayor’s Office

 

Commander Skotleski brought up that the Everhart Museum is now open to the public and that if they can be open, then so can we.

 

Next meeting will be held on Saturday, October 17th at 10:30am.

 

GOOD OF THE ORDER:  

Craig Kelly asked that we have a moment of silence for the POW/MIA.

           

PATRIOTIC INSTRUCTION:  

PI Jerry O’Malley did a brief synopsis on the life and times of General Daniel Edgar Sickles.  The most interesting fact was that he was arrested for murder and was found not guilty by reason of insanity.  This was the very first case in which this defense was used.  

 

With no further business, the camp was closed in ritualistic manner by Commander Skotleski.
