MONTHLY MEETING

EZRA S. GRIFFIN CAMP #8

April 17, 2021

 

The Zoom meeting was called to order in ritualistic fashion by Commander Jerry Skotleski.

The minutes for the March meeting were read. A correction by William Fischer on his lecture (WWI Aviation and not WWII Aviation).  A motion then was made by Timothy Chase and seconded by Rich Ryczak.  All were in favor.

 

SICK MEMBERS:

None

 

TREASURER’S REPORT:

A motion to accept the Treasurer’s Report was made by Craig Kelly and seconded by Rich Ryczak.  All were in favor.

 

APPLICATIONS:

Certificate has been sent to Gary Snyder and his initiation will take place when we reopen.

 

EAGLE SCOUT REPORT:

Nothing at this time.

 

CORRESPONDENCE:

All General Orders and Department Orders have been emailed to members.

 

OLD BUSINESS:

Bill said he passed the Dunmore Cemetery and thought that flags looked alright and that maybe another organization had replaced them.  Hal Myers went up and said that many are broken and need to be replaced.

 

Memorial Day:

·         John Zadzura will be our guest speaker. 

·         With the governor reopening the state with 50% occupancy, we will be able to have our program.

·         Will need people to do Logan’s Orders, Pledge of Allegiance, Gettysburg Address, etc.

·         Commander Skotleski to contact the Dunmore Band

·         Do we contact the paper and list the event online?

·         If numbers of Covid continues, we may need to scale back or do the Silent Sentinel.  Right now, our program is on.

 

NEW BUSINESS:

Russ Jones told members of a plan to reopen the old Scranton School for the Deaf for veterans and first responders.   He was contacted by Ed Faust if we were interested to move our Museum there.  The meeting is set for Sunday, April 18th at 10am and any members wanting to go are asked to email Russ at russjones1998@yahoo.com to give him a head count so that he can email them for a head count for a lunch.  Even if a member can stop by for an hour, all participation is appreciated.  Russ also said that he will be at the Holy Cross School Parking lot at 9:45am to any of those who want to follow him to the location.  The meeting is to be held at 1800 North Washington Avenue.

 

Flag Detail

·         To be held on Saturday, May 8th at 10:30am and will start at the Dunmore Cemetery before we go to the Forest Hill Cemetery.

·         A discussion on flag removal was brought up and the flags we replace will be discarded respectfully and given to either a Boy Scout group or dropped off at one of the many flag discard bins in the area.

·         Bob and Danielle Shaffer will stop at the Museum after the meeting tomorrow to see how many flags we have there.

 

 GOOD OF THE ORDER:

Bill told us of his daughter Molly and son-in-law Josh and how they are now finished with their 12 day quarantine in South Korea and have been there for 3 weeks.  They have met with their adoptive son twice and will be coming home soon.

 

Next meeting is Saturday, May 15th at 10:30am on Zoom.

 

PATRIOTIC INSTRUCTION:

As Jerry O’Malley was still having technical difficulty, there was no report.

 

With no further business, the camp was closed in ritualistic manner by Commander Skotleski.
