MONTHLY MEETING

EZRA S. GRIFFIN CAMP #8

April 23, 2022

 

The meeting was called to order in ritualistic manner by Commander Jerry Skotleski.

Minutes from the March meeting were read.  A motion to accept the minutes as read was made by Giovan Lisi and seconded by Craig Kelly, all were in favor. 

 

TREASURER'S REPORT:  

The check for Per Capita has been sent in. 

 

Craig Kelly brought up the Encampment Ad and asked what we do as the deadline is May 16th.  A motion was made by Bob Shaffer to take out an ad and it was seconded by Craig Kelly.  All were in favor. 

 

APPLICATIONS

Charles Matthias to join as an Associate.  He will be initiated at the May meeting.

 

MEMBERSHIP:  

5 members have been dropped; 2 are still waiting to pay.  We have a total of 75 members; 16 in which are Life Members.  Total of 59 members that are paid members.

 

EAGLE SCOUT COMMITTEE: 

Commander Skotleski said he will contact Alex Albright of Scranton High School about his Eagle Scout status. 

 

CORRESPONDENCE: 

All General and Department Orders have been emailed to members. 

 

UNFINISHED BUSINESS

Flag Detail will be held on Saturday, May 7th at both the Dunmore Cemetery and Forest Hill Cemetery.  We will meet up at the veterans’ plot at the Dunmore Cemetery at 10am.  Either Bill Fischer or Scott Teeters will dispose of the flags.  Bob Shaffer has picked up the flags for Flag Detail.

 

Commander Skotleski let us know that there will be no free Zoom meetings under his school license after June.  If there was to be a meeting held by computer, we need to find other outlets.

 

Memorial Day is nearly set.  There was no word from the Commissioners.  The Dunmore Band will play at the Ceremony.  Taps to be done by Jack Partyka.  John Zadzura said he will try to get Judge Munley to speak at the Ceremony.

 

Bill Fischer spoke of the Air Force ROTC Award Ceremony that was held at Wilkes University.  Cadet Jakobe Maskulak was awarded the SUVCW ROTC Award.

 

NEW BUSINESS

The Lincoln Ceremony will be held after the meeting at Nay Aug Park.

 

John Zadzura asked about the status of our move.  Bill Fischer and Howard Wolfe had a meeting with Diane Yoder and the location is still being investigated.

 

Commander Skotleski will contact City Hall about our situation.

 

Bob Shaffer brought up that at the GAR Memorial Meeting that 2 positions are open on the Board.  He made a motion to accept Commander Skotleski to 1 of the positions.  Bill Fischer seconded.

 

On June 25th the Waverly House will be holding a Civil War dance.  The Waverly House has a community tour of local sites that has been added to the National Park Service's Underground Railroad Network to Freedom as a certified program.  The Waverly House itself was not part of the UGRR, being only about 100 years old.

 

FOR THE GOOD OF THE ORDER:

There will be a Civil War Encampment at the Milford Columns on Saturday, May 21st from 10am to 4pm.

 

The May meeting will be held on Saturday, May 21st.  The Departed Brothers Ceremony will be conducted that day and men are asked to wear their badges and kepis.  Charles Matthias will also be initiated into the Sons.

 

The June meeting will be held on Saturday June 11th.  A motion to change the date was made by Bob Shaffer and seconded by Craig Kelly.

 

Jerry O’Malley showed us a few articles from the local paper.  One was of a veterans section in the Sunday Times about local veteran functions.  The second was an article from April 16th about the Pittston Memorial Library and the Pittston Historical Society. 

 

With no further business or discussion, the meeting was closed in ritualistic fashion by Commander Skotleski.
