MONTHLY MEETING

EZRA S. GRIFFIN CAMP #8

January 21, 2023

The meeting was called to order in ritualistic manner by Commander Jerry Skotleskia at our new location at the Marketplace at Steamtown Mall, Scranton.

Other members in attendance were:

Carter Atkins Tim Chase Bill Fischer Rich Ryczak
Dale Keklock Giovan Lisi Howard Wolfe Gary Snyder

Officers Excused: Patriotic Instructor Jerry O'Malley

INSTALLATION OF OFFICERS:

Given the necessity of the first meeting at City Hall to examine what remained in the former museum space, that officer installation was the most crucial event for this month's meeting, the Order of Business was modified to ensure that camp officers were installed, which was done by PDC Howard Wolfe.

Minutes from the December meeting were read by Commander Skotleski, who had served as acting Camp Secretary for several months.  A motion to accept the minutes as read was made by Gary Snyder and seconded by Giovan Lisi, all were in favor.

TREASURER'S REPORT:

Howard Wolfe reported that 30 members have paid their dues.  A motion to accept the treasurer's report was made by Giovan Lisi and seconded by Tim Chase, all were in favor.

ILLNESS/DISTRESS:

Continued thoughts and prayers are with Hal Myers and other members who are dealing with family concerns.

EAGLE SCOUT COMMITTEE:

No news reported from Jim Jones.

CORRESPONDENCE:

All General and Department Orders have been emailed to members.

UNFINISHED BUSINESS

The museum move from City Hall to the Marketplace was delayed due to circumstances beyond the camp's/association's control, and finally this month, with the majority of materials moved to the Marketplace this past week.  The movers will bring another load on Monday.  The former City Hall meeting room is clear of Camp #8 materials.

The camp offers thanks to Howard Wolfe, Russ Jones and Bill Fischer and his wife, Sue, for their work at the new location this past week.  Also, thanks are given to Scott Teeters and his wife, KIm, for their work this morning at the former museum location.

MOTIONS:

The 3rd reading on the proposed Camp by-laws changes was conducted.  The changes are large in scope and were attached to the Novmber/December minutes.  The only discussion on the motion was dealing with the new meeting location (not in the proposed changes) since the start date for the move remained uncertain with the proposal was first made and did not begin until this month.

Bill Fischer will at the Department if we can simply make the location change without having to go through another by-laws proposal for that one simple change.

All were in favor of the motion, and after Bill Fischer gets clarification, will print up updated by-laws, have them signed, and forward them to the Pennsylvania Department commander for approval.  Once complete, copies will be emailed to camp members.

NEW BUSINESS:

Bill Fischer, the PA Department ROTC Award coordinator, provided an update that he has reached out to all ROTC/JROTC units in PA with information about the SUVCW ROTC Award and included the updated Form 7 to apply for the no-cost award.  Last year, about 30% of PA ROTC/JROTC units applied for the award.  Hopefully, more will apply this year.

FOR THE GOOD OF THE ORDER:

The next camp meeting will be held on Saturday, Februatry 18, 2023 at 10:30am at the Marketplace at Steamtown (2nd floor next to Crunch Fitness).

The following camp meeting is projected to be Saturday, March 18, 2023, same time and place (the Scranton St. Patrick's Parade is schedule for Saturday, March 11, 2023, and needs avoided).

With no further business or discussion, the meeting was closed in ritualistic fashion by Commander Skotleski.

Respectfully submitted,

William E. Fischer Jr., PCC

Secretary
